My boyfriend and I arrived at this pub on a Saturday evening, we are locals of England and wanted to try some authentic Slovakian food. We were greeted by a waiter and seated in one of the outside areas, we had a drinks order taken and they arrived quickly, our food was ordered and arrived soon after. The food was exceptional and the service was okay so far. We spent around 25 minutes eating and once we were done our plates were cleared and we asked for the bill. Between the time of asking for the bill and receiving it the same waiter brought over a couple who were waiting to be sat outside, the waiter told them that we were leaving soon as we’re about to get the bill and as a result they stood behind us waiting for us to pay and leave, making us feel rushed and like they wanted us out the door as soon as possible. Once the bill was brought over we opted to pay by card, we clicked the no tip option and as soon as the waiter noticed we did this he said under his breath “no tip” and huffed, his mood completely changed and once the receipt came out of the machine he ripped it out with force and threw it at us and walked off angrily. When we left a couple minutes later we attempted to say goodbye and thank them but we were ignored.
I am not one to leave negative reviews but the loveliness of the experience was completely ruined by the service at the end. It seems a common theme on other reviews of this pub that tips are seen as mandatory and the staff become funny with you if you don’t leave one. I wish I could say I would return if I found myself in Slovakia again because the food was amazing but we felt so unwelcome and as a result I...
Read moreI have a feeling that the older Bratislavan restaurants work together on creating a similar menu and general experience. I don't know if that is true - but both places we went to had the same distinctive style of menu and overall atmosphere, and both places were a bit lacking and disappointing when it came to the food. Which is sad, because you would come here to taste the best versions of typical Bratislavan (or Slovakian) food - but it falls short.
To be fair, my food here was nice in flavour - but not wow, and also not much. I liked it because I came here in the late morning, I don't think I would have been satisfied if I would have ordered this in the afternoon or for dinner. My girlfriend's portion size was good, but her soup also wasn't wow, merely fine (I know it can be better).
The service was slow, and in the end we were 'forgotten' for over fifteen minutes (while we were here with all our bags, on our way to the train station...). We stood up and asked multiple people of the staff if we could pay, but we kept having to wait, and it seemed our waiter was busy doing the dishes. At long last, the staff allowed us to pay, and then asked us for a tip. When we declined, the staff visibly became annoyed. Really bad.
And all this brings me back to my first point; I suspect these restaurants are cooperating together to serve the same foods with the same quality standards, so that they don't actually need to compete on making the most delicious foods possible or providing the best experience possible, but can just get away with doing the minimum. That is, at least, the feeling that remained when I...
Read moreWhat an absolute waste of money on crappy food and slow service!!! I mean people ask for recommendations on where to go but my recommendation here will be on where not to put an effin foot. First you walk up to find a sign that asks you to wait until you’re seated; that would only happen until eventually someone comes from the back after you’ve been waiting there standing acting weird because nobody shows up for a long time. Second you order things from a menu with pictures just to get a dish that doesn’t even remotely look like what you ordered… also you ordered spicy sauce that comes with your dish but it’s 2 extra euros but it’s never brought to you because once the waiter leaves your table you’re on your own. We only went there because we really wanted to try Slovakian food but the disappointment from the experience couldn’t be bigger. And lastly after all that bad experience once you also wait until someone is willing to bring you the bill the waiter tries to guilt you into tipping. Not only tipping is not part of the European dining experience but people here don’t work a tip based salary so don’t pretend that after you put the minimum effort into providing a service you need to...
