It was very nice that they excepted a group of 6 people around 22:00, when the rest of restaurants in Ljubljana are closed. The staff and atmosphere were nice and we were super happy we can sit in a nice restaurant and eat good food after a long day of work. When the waiter came he ruined our evening with his behavior and made us think we don’t belong there. The first thing he asked us before even bringing the menu was: “do you know where you are?” He also argued with a lady who wanted her steak well done and made the whole drama about it although she was ready to order something else just to avoid his rude reaction. I ordered a grilled zucchini for a side dish and got more tomatoes and paprika than zucchini. No problem if I would be told in advance.. At the end of our meal was again problem because we wanted to pay separately and the waiter even cursed us. With a friend we needed to calculate for ourselves how much each of us pays. It is a shame such a good quality food get presented like this. Even though the food was good, not great or excellent, the stuff ruined my evening....
Read moreThe kind of place I love. I got there at about 7.30 on a Monday night in November without a reservation and managed to get the last available seat. Staff were super-friendly, and combined professionalism with a good sense of fun and a genuine desire for their customers to have a great experience. I had the raw fillet steak to start, which was delicious albeit very much focused on quality rather than quantity. It was accompanied by a small loaf of bread which they dampen and put on the barbecue. Sounds a bit odd but it was very tasty and was great to mop up the oils and Parmesan left from the raw fillet. For my main course I went for the special Colt steak. Not something I will be mentioning to my vegetarian daughter, and my first time eating horse, but it was really delicious. Also had a bottle of local wine, recommended by the waitress, which was a perfect match. Bill came to 66 Euros, which isn't the cheapest in Ljubljana, but you'd pay way more in London or Paris. If I go back to Ljubljana with friends or family I'll definitely go...
Read moreOh man. I turned up 10 minutes before the place opened on a cold Monday night, and just managed to get a seat at the bar. The menu is incredibly simple, this place is all about top-quality very simple food. It's not actually on the main tourist drag right by the river, it's actually one street back with the falafel joints and cool little shop.
The place was crazy busy, lots of people coming in without bookings and getting turned away. Prices are pretty reasonable I thought. Not cheap, but I didn't feel gouged at all. Staff were amazingly nice (but rushed off their feet even on Monday). The place seems to be popular with ex-pats (lots of English speaking), with a smattering of locals and a few tourists.
What makes a restaurant truly memorable? Sometimes it's the food, sometimes the service, sometimes the location. But sometimes it almost seems like magical convergence of all...
