Let me preface by saying ive worked in the industry for a long time and I'm aware of how much weight a bad review can carry, that being said I still felt as I had to write this. Me and my girlfriend eat sushi very often and have been looking for an all you can eat establishment in Ljubljana and stumbled upon Tloft's Friday (all you can eat)Sushi Night at a price point of 26 euros a person. We arrived and while the restaurant does not scream sushi/japanese at all from the outside , it is very pretty on the inside and the atmosphere was good, unfortunately this was as good as it got. We ordered 2 menus and for drinks a blueberry lemonade ( quite good) and a cocktail called Tomorrow, which consist of stritcly 5 different spirits, whereas a negroni works because of the flavor balance, this just tasted like doing pure shots, and at a cost of 14 euros, I felt robbed. When the first round of sushi comes you get a plate with 7 to 8 different sushi, and from our experience we assumed the next round would be the same way with different options. To our surprise after this first platter, you're getting a 2 sushi serving of one of the ones you had at the start, on around a 10 minute timer. Not only was the sushi not good, the fish in one of them tasted quite literally rotten and at some point made one of us have a gag reflex, the rice was the stickiest we've had too , it felt like it was gluing to your throat as you ate it. Anytime we asked the waitress for anything such as possibly a bigger or faster portion of sushi other than 2 every 10 minutes we were faced with an Instant no, 0 customer service training, even though the restaurant was borderline empty. Not only was the sushi bad, the service subpar and the drink awful, this is literally the opposite of how an all you can eat approach works. You're supposed to be able to order and eat as you like as the name entails but you literally only get 2 individual servings every 10 minutes. For a total bill of around 70€ this was quite a sad experience. Bad but laughably bad at least. Made the review long as when we were looking for places, we struggled to find any recent information...
Read moreI visited the place to grab a light meal after work. I ordered the sour and spicy soup and dim sum. The soup arrived fairly quickly and while the portion was ok, the soup tasted bland and a bit flavorless. For a soup that has "sour" and "spicy" in the name, it was barely sour and not spicy at all. I finished the soup and waited for my steamed dumplings. This downtime allowed me to notice that the place was almost entirely populated by loud and obnoxious young teens. Most likely due to the hour of my visit, around the time school ends, I would avoid visiting again between 1PM and 4PM. In this time I also noticed that the two FoH staff members were stretched thin, having to help each other, unable to step away from the "bar area", seemingly struggling with making a cup of bobba iced tea. At this point, it has been almost 25 minutes since I finished my soup and the dumplings were nowhere in sight. Feeling a bit insulted by the treatment, seeing as people that came in after me and ordered after me were getting their food and drink, I got up to pay at the bar counter and leave. At this point one of the staff noticed and quickly ran to the kitchen, running back with a plate of dumplings that most likely have been standing on the kitchen counter, waiting to be delivered to the table. I've prepared dim sum before and know it doesnt take nearly half an hour to steam them, I refused the offer to have them prepared for take out, despite being offered by the staff. I paid for the soup and left.
Most of the items on the menu are priced reasonably, if the food itself was prepared well. But it really feels like playing russian roulette ordering off the menu, not knowing whether you'll get an amazing and tasty dish or something that gets outshined by a genericself service...
Read moreDo not order sushi here. I visited after reading good reviews. This is my first bad review of a place but I’m writing as a public service to warn people, and also to even out the overall rating because my experience was nowhere near the 4.4 stars this place currently holds. I ate salmon sushi. The fish was anything but fresh and there was large bits of wasabi hidden in the pieces that gave me intense nose burn(I just made that term up but it’s the best way to describe it). It kept happening even as I deconstructed my sushi and tried to pick all the wasabi off. I also tried the matcha bubble tea latte: ‘meh’ is my conclusion after a roller coaster of responses to the ‘pearls’ that were mainly not tapioca as expected.... but the ones that pop(misc. flavours). I discovered as I neared the end of my tea that there was some tapioca pearls, but they were all stuck together at the bottom. The matcha powder itself was minimal, I mostly tasted milk, and the drink wasn’t very cold. I’m honestly scared I’m going to get sick now after that salmon... but I couldn’t afford to not eat it... shit’s expensive, man. At least hopefully you read this before learning for yourself. The service was okay... and maybe the other dishes are really good(questionable because none of the staff seem to know much about the cuisine they are serving/making!) Just don’t order sushi, and only order bubble tea if you are desperate...
