The staff is rude . We had a humiliating experience with 2 waiters and even the manager. It was our 1st day in Ljubliana. We wanted to sit on the table for 4 near the river. Before we were seated, we informed the female staff that we were here for drinks and asked about the drinks menu. We were rudely told to go to the table , and you would get the menu there. After we had ordered the drinks and waited for our order, the waiter very rudely asked us to vacate the table we were on. If he had explained their rule policy politely , we would have understood and obliged immediately. The manner of communication was extremely aggressive and rude. We felt very humiliated, especially as he was loud and spoke for a good 5 minutes, berating our lack of manners and understanding that if there was cutlery on the table, it meant that only food would be served. We wanted to walk out but waited because of decency as we had already placed the drinks order Then the manager, Mr Bovan, came and spoke with us with more of the same rudeness , aggression, and condescension. We are reputed senior doctors in our country and have traveled the world. No where in the world, do the staff in hospitality industry behave in this kind of unfriendly and...

After sitting for 20 mins and ordering drinks at a beautiful table, we were told to move to the back because we did not want to order food.

The staff very rudely said "if you don't want food, you have to move to the back, or pay a €4 cover charge". They never apologized and were extremely condescending. We gave the feedback to both the staff and the manager, that we understand their policy but they should tell people beforehand about this so they don't have to embarrassingly move. We even asked for the drinks menu only.

The manager's response: "there was cutlery on the table, so you should know you are expected to order food. This is how it works in Slovenia and actually all over the world" I told him I live in Canada and this is not how it works. Funnily, the table we were moved to also had cutlery 😂

He also never said sorry and continued to defend their staff saying "they were probably polite".

I don't know if their staff's rudeness was racism or just generally like that, but I have never been treated with such terrible attitude at a restaurant.

On a brighter note, I liked my Moscow Mule. They did run out of lemons so we couldn't...

We came here for a late afternoon meal on the strength of some very favourable reviews, and we were certainly not disappointed. The steak tartare was excellent, reflecting the fine quality of the meat. Being really picky, it would have been nice to have had a small bowl of finely chopped shallots and a little tabasco, but this may be a germanic thing.

The octopus salad was the standout dish, with a fabulous mango dressing, with fennel and nice salty undertones from the capers. The octopus was flame grilled and beautifully tender and also slightly charred, adding to the flavour. The steak salad was also an excellent main course and could be cut like a knife through butter.

We finished the meal with a fabulous crème brûlée, that was creamy and not too sweet. The cheese board was also full of local Slovenian delights, including a very tasty black variety that was extremely tasty.

Restaurant Ljubjiana is definitely worth a visit if you enjoy top quality food. My only other observation is that one is spoilt for choice and it is really hard to pick from the excellent range of...
