Visited early September as couple. Ambiance was good. Service was average, as the food. Pricing was geared towards tourists and too high. We ordered one Mushroom soup in a bread cup and one Ljubljana steak.
The service was prompt when seating us, but it took a while for them to bring the menu. Additionally, after bringing the menu, the server rushed us to place our order, which felt a bit pushy. When we wanted to pay, it also took some time for the server to bring the credit card reader. (3/5)
The food was okay and average. The mushroom soup in the bread cup was just a regular mushroom soup, and serving it in bread didn't add any extra flavor. It was merely a change in presentation. Towards the end, the bread became overly salty. (3/5) The Ljubljana steak tasted like a typical Calzone, and I'm not sure why it's called a Ljubljana steak. The fancy name didn't add any special value to the dish itself. I could buy 4 similar steaks for €3.99 in total at any Aldi in Germany. (1/5)
The overall pricing is higher than in non-touristy areas and doesn't match the quality of the food. The ambiance is truly enjoyable, as the atmosphere and decorations create a nice local feeling, which is a positive aspect. (4/5)
In general, I can only recommend this restaurant if you specifically want to dine in a touristy area. Otherwise, there are plenty of other restaurants with better value for your money. (3+3+1+4)/4 ...
Read moreTerrible experience. I'm Slovenian and I was really disappointed of the food here. But more so about the whole experience. I took my parents in law from Germany here and we were all thinking was what a disgrace of Slovenian cuisine this place was. The food looked good, but the mushroom soup was really watery, pears on the salad were not fresh (from a bloody jar), BBQ ribs were served cold, and everything was far overpriced. If I touch the experience ... They didn't offer regular water from pipe, which is a standard thing in Slovenia. It always was. If I were there alone, I would leave just because of that. They also took my girlfriend's plate while she was still eating, without asking anything. They forgot what my mother in law has ordered and even when she explained them again, they brought her the wrong dish. Their kitchen is a mess ... The waiter slipped and fell on the floor while we were waiting for food to arrive, and another one crashed a plate in the meanwhile. Also, the toilets were dirty. Loparnica dish, however, tasted great, and homemade beer was very good. But in the end they charged two glasses of wine instead of one. Not sure if this was a scamming attempt or not, but it surely wasn't a nice finish of the evening. I would recommend not to eat traditional dishes in Ljubljana, as there are so many cheaper and much better restaurants on the country side, and many of them offer...
Read moreWe were looking for a restaurant with local and traditional cuisine. This restaurant is definitely that. The food was delicious and very diverse. Everyone could find an option for themselves. There were 7 of us and we ordered soups to start. The big minus is that we waited 25 minutes for the soup and main course to arrive together. It's somehow normal for us to get the soups first and eat them, and then the rest, because everything barely fit on the table and some even got cold. All of that would have been fine considering that the food was very good, if one of the people hadn't even received their food. She didn't order soup because she was eating goulash. We had eaten our soups and main course and were almost finished when she got up and decided to ask where her one dish was. It turns out that it was in the kitchen with the side salad and no one had checked whose it was. Maybe if the waiter had come up to us and asked if everything was okay, he would have noticed in time, or if when he brought the last dish he had asked if everyone had everything and if we needed anything else. The ambiance and the food itself are great, but the organization and service are a problem. Also, the blood sausages were bad and unseasoned, that was the only part of the food that didn't work for us, the...
