TLDR: Must visit if you want to try Slovenian food, absolutely avoid if you get put away by bad customer service.
Absolutely amazing "bograc" (if you are hungry, take the large portion) and "dodole". Love the food, the meat is really good and you absolutely should go there for trying out the local Slovenian food.
However, the service I have experienced in the last two times (yes, I love their food) is one of the worst that I remember. Not just one staff member, all of them that I could notice were moody, unhelpful and seemed like they would rather be at home than working.
Took my friend there last week and the inside of the place was full, so we asked if we can sit outside. Waiter's response: Yes, but if it starts to rain, you will stay outside (rude tone). Apparently the umbrellas they have on the terrace don't hold the water well (?!). Anyhow, anyone that asked if they can be seated was met with a rude question if they have the reservation (the terrace was having 12 empty sits at that time; goes to show they were nearly fighting off the customers). And of course the same line we were met with followed; "You can sit outside, but you will remain outside if it rains. I don't have space for you inside."
Next; bograc dish comes in a pot and normally there is a candle underneath to keep it warm. Well ours didn't have it and when I requested it, the waiter brought it after a sassy comment that the wind will put it off anyway. (It wasn't windy and the candle didn't go out after all).
When tried to request a bill, it seemed that the waiters were avoiding eye contact for several minutes (you cant order more, cant pay, seriously?).
And yes, I have worked several customer service jobs and have never had amazing service, but it was still far better than the one at Gujzina. Not trying to scare away anyone, as mentioned, go there for the food, but you guys there have some serious work to do on your attitude...
Read moreGujzina serves typical Slovenian food and quality is quite good although not exceptional in taste as well as presentation. This is not to say that it is average but when the price is considered, then you could have the same for 20% less. Service depends on which waiter/waitress you get. We were there twice over two days and the first time around, we got very good service with the waitress prompt and accomodating. She made made spot on recommendations based on what dishes we chose. Delivery was prompt as we stuck with the items which seems to have been prepared in advance (goulash, salad). The table next to us was made to wait gorever for their meat dish and we could see that they were quite upset at this. The next day we returned for dinner and sat at the same table. The male waiter was polite but brief in his answers. Not all too attentive but prompt when called. Like the night before, the same table (different guests) next to us waited forever for their buckwheat dish. Unlike the other coupke from the night before, they complained about the delay and were a reply to the order of: “You see how many guests we have!” and when they wanted to cancel the rest of the order he replied “You already had the soup.” probably implying that they ought to make sure to pay for that. We didn't get that kind of rude service and got our meals within a reasonable amount of time. So if you go here, stick to the simple items and do NOT complain about the slow service unless you want to be given a rather rude...
Read moreWe tried twice to have dinner at Gujzina without result.... We will definitely avoid to come a third time after the unfriendly and rude attitude we were given. The first time on Friday the 9th of August, we arrived at the restaurant at 9pm and although in internet they report that its closing time is 10pm, we were told that the kitchen was already closed. We decided to give them a second try and returned tonight the 10th of August. After yesterday's experience we showed up at 7:30 pm. Asking the waiter for a table for three persons, he rushly answered that without a reservation there was no table available and he turned away....without saying sorry or greeting at all. A little disappointed we left. Then, asking a second waiter if the full house situation was referred both for tables inside and outside (actually there were still nearly half tables free outside and all tables free inside) a little annoyed we were told that inside we could take our seats...What a surprising concession... The fact that it was not offered spontaneously to us, a customer, that if we were willing to sit inside, they would be pleased to serve us dinner.... We decided to leave the place and on top write this comment. This is definitely NOT the way to treat customers. We won't ever leave a single cent in this badly managed place. Instead we dined at Barbarella on the opposite side of the road where we enjoyed superb vegan dishes in a fantastic...
