Today, I had the pleasure of enjoying a delightful lunch at Julija restaurant, situated at Stari trg 9, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia. This charming establishment surpassed all expectations and left me thoroughly impressed with its exquisite Slovenian cuisine and impeccable service.
Food Quality: Julija restaurant serves up some truly awesome Slovenian food. While slightly on the expensive side, every bite is worth it. Today, the soup of the day, a broccoli cream soup, stole the show with its rich and creamy texture, bursting with flavor. The knuckle dish was another highlight, boasting amazing tenderness and taste that left me craving more. And to top it all off, the Apple strudel was a delightful sweet treat that perfectly rounded off the meal.
Service: The service at Julija restaurant is top-notch. Our waiter, who was both polite and professional, injected a dose of humor into our dining experience, making us feel right at home. Their recommendations, including an excellent Slovenian wine, added to the overall enjoyment of the meal.

The interior is warm, inviting, and exudes a cozy charm that makes it the perfect setting for a leisurely meal. Read morewe took a recommendation from our hotel staff for dinner here. Just off the Ljubljanica river. Quite busy when we arrived but the pleasant staff found a place for us. Server was a gem, great on answering questions and handling his area so diners felt well taken care of. Menu was an eclectic collection with pastas, Slovenian dishes, seafood, and salads. Having enjoyed so many delicious tomatoes on this trip, it was a no-brainer to split a Caprese salad to start. It was excellent. Wife chose the beef filet (tenderloin?) with porcini mushrooms and cheese dumplings. The beef was excellent, cooked as ordered, but the sauce was a bit too salty for our taste. Unfortunately, the mushrooms and “dumplings” were nowhere near as good. The mushrooms were overcooked to the point of basically being a mushy paste and the dumplings appeared to be some type of wrapper like a lavash bread or super thin tortilla stuffed with cottage cheese. Did not appeared to be cooked, could be wrong. Boring, bland, and not worth the calories. My Veal filet with truffle mashed potatoes and asparagus was a very good entre except for one snafu. The veal was perfectly cooked with an herby jus that was a great compliment. The asparagus was a real star, cooked to a still crisp texture with a lovely seasoning. The potatoes, unfortunately, were served at much too low of a temperature to be enjoyed. Really took away from the tasty flavor profile. A little of the warm sauce from the beef increased the palatability. Unfortunate. No dessert tonight. Recommended but...

I attempted to dine at this establishment around 6:15 PM on a Sunday. On the terrace, some tables were empty with “reserved” signs, and inside, several tables were vacant without any reservation signs.
I approached a staff member who greeted me and asked if they had a table for two. He told me to wait a moment.
Soon after, a female staff member escorted me to a table located between the toilet and the kitchen in a narrow corridor, surrounded by noise and staff constantly moving in and out of the kitchen.
I was not informed that this was the only available table, nor was I asked if it was suitable for us, displaying a complete disregard for the customer. I found myself questioning whether it was worth spending 100 to 200 euros on dinner under such conditions.
I called over a staff member and inquired if there were any other available tables, as several were vacant. I was told they were also reserved. They might have been, or they might not have been, but I chose to leave and spend my money at a place where I am better received.
I shared this experience with some locals, and they implied that this might be a recurring attitude of this establishment towards tourists.
In the many places I’ve visited in Slovenia, I’ve never been treated this way. This restaurant does not reflect Slovenian...
