Company Garden & Government Avenue. Company Garden is located on Government Avenue. This review includes both, the Company Garden as well as Government Avenue. We left Hotel around 0900 AM. After a drive of around an hour we were dropped at the junction of beginning of Adderley Street and Government Avenue. During the drive passed thorough some well maintained roads and interesting sights and statues. The Avenue bisects Central Garden. Many historically buildings are seen along and around the Government Avenue. It is a walking street. we did not walk the full length of Government Avenue but left it after Company Garden to rendezvous with our coach. The street was made in 1679 or so. Planted on both sides by Oak Tree. Over a period of time original oak trees have been replaced by different varieties of oak trees. It is a very pleasant walk and today forms one of the tourist attractions of Cape Town. Important buildings and monuments along the street were well maintained and preserved. Made for good photo shoot. Wiki help for some data.

The garden area around the restaurant is a wonderful and magical space. Perfect for young kids. The restaurant was reasonable and the atmosphere in the garden was great. There were very few vegan options ( in fact only one). I had the vegan Buddha bowl. It was very nicely presented and tasty. I had a bowl of chips to go with the food. Like most mediocre restaurants they use pre-cut chips. They were ok, but only ok. Nowhere near the experience and taste of hand-cut chips which higher end restaurants offer. Unfortunately they only offer almond milk as a non-dairy milk option with coffee. ( I don't like almond milk with coffee, but prefer either rice milk or Oat milk with coffee). I therefore chose not to have coffee, but instead ordered a black rooibos tea with sliced lemon to go with the vegan apple crumble which I had for dessert. Three people in our party ordered the vegan apple crumble. One person said the dough was not properly cooked and was raw. She decided not to eat it or request a replacement. Another person also complained that his apple crumble dough was a bit raw, but he decided to eat it. I was lucky and I didn't feel that the dough in mine was raw. It was quite tasty and reasonably light and not overly sweet, which was great. There was a hiccup with the vegan apple crumbles. They were all brought to us with a blob of what looked like cream ( as well as a sliced fresh strawberry. I asked the waitress what the white stuff was and she said "cream". I thought perhaps I had misheard her. After all I had ordered a vegan apple crumble. I checked with her again and three times she repeated with confidence that it was cream. I had to send mine back as the cream was touching the apple crumble. The waitress brought me a new one, without the blob of cream. She was very friendly and apologetic about the raw apple crumble and the cream that was served on the plate with the vegan apple crumble. The only issue with the service was no one came around after our initial order was brought to the table. We had to seek out some assistance when we wanted the dessert. We were asked if we could pay the bill in cash rather than with a card ( if possible). Apparently this was due to the poor connectivity of the portable credit card machine. It turned out that one person paid about 1/3 of the bill in cash and the rest was paid with a card and there didn't seem to be an issue with the card payment going through. Regarding the raw apple crumbles, we were told that they are bought from a supplier, so we fully understood that there was no way for them to know they were under-cooked. Overall it was a largely positive and pleasant visit.

The food here though!!! So good! My favourite is the French toast (made with...drumroll please...the best tasting nutty banana bread!). They make a mean latte as well. A little stronger than your average. They have a full range of freshly made cakes on display. Always a good time for your taste buds. The menu has something for everyone. Toilet facilities plus a baby change room on the premises. Family/kid friendly. They offer a kiddies menu and the little ones can enjoy the play area situated in front of the restaurant (under your supervision of course). The fact that it's situated in the center of the Company Gardens is also a great attraction for the kids (lots of squirrels, fish and geese to see). Inside and outside seating available. Service is a bit lacking. My waiter was inattentive, considering the restaurant was practically empty. They are a bit pricey but the food portions are well worth the price. But as with any restaurant, the cold beverages are ridiculously overpriced. Overall worth the visit.

The Company's Garden is a park and heritage site located in central Cape Town. The garden was originally created in the 1650s by the region's first European settlers and provided fertile ground to grow fresh produce to replenish ships rounding the Cape. It is watered from the Molteno Dam, which uses water from the springs on the lower slopes of Table Mountain. A magical place to take some time off to rewind amongst giant trees (for us anyway) and curious critters. The gardens have been around for many years and thankfully are well maintained and cared for. We went specially to feed the squirrels and they did not disappoint. We were very careful not to scare them or the pigeons that descended on us. The Egyptian geese were friendly although we know they can inflict a sore bite. There is free WiFi in the middle of the garden as well as a restaurant Update August 2020. Time of COVID lockdown 2 came for a quick walk and breakfast with my two fur kids. Gardens were lovely as usual but even better for not having too many people about. We ended up at the madame Zingara restaurant and had a very overpriced Gardner breakfast. Won’t be back at these prices

I live the Company's Garden because it is such a peaceful place. You come here for a walk, a picnic, to read or to just relax. There are two restaurants inside the garden which you can also enjoy a meal at. You can feed the pigeons and the squirrels. This is a great place for a family day, the children can run around the garden and enjoy sitting inside one of their beautiful huts (not sure what they are called). This is also a great place to walk your dogs. I have been to this place several times and it never gets old. You can get a great view of table mountain, lions head and signal hill. It is also a great place for a photoshoot. Capture the great moments in a natural environment.
