Have you seen the new offering at Montecasino.
Besides all the other fab restaurants, they have now added a Turkish restaurant to give you more of a variety (although they already have a wide one). Nomad is the new kid on the block. If you have been to their Mall of Africa branch, then you will know what to expect. They have made great use of their space. Simple basic decor, upstairs a bar and hookah lounge. I love stunning murals on the wall, saddened this stunning one is hidden in the 'Powder room' instead of being front and centre, to welcome you as you walk in.
The menu has some great items, but also some to accommodate the non adventurous taste buds, which I think should have a few more authentic dishes. For starters, we had the Icli kofta and Manti (homemade pasta stuffed with beef & topped with yoghurt, tomato & a browned garlic sauce). It's definitely something different for the taste buds.
For mains we tried Adana kebab; Minced & spiced lamb kebab served with lavash bread, bulgur rice & mixed grilled vegtables, i felt the kebab needed a bit more spice, and then a Vegetarian platter (great variety of all things veg and tasty) Halloumi cheese, falafels, batata kibe, muhammara, baba ganoush, zucchini fritters & labneh served with lavash bread, pan fried spinach & tomato with onions.
My Cosmopolitan was great, and our waitress Zizinhle was more than willing to bring me more 𤣠she was so much fun. I then tried the Mango Daiquiri, wow guys that packs a punch, but OH.SO.DAMN.DELICIOUS š be warned though (its effect is like a long island)
We got to taste their Turkish delight, now after going to Turkey and experiencing how they make it there. This one was light and not overpowering with flavour, and had like a marshmallow texture on the one side. Really nice.
Lastly, we had a Turkish Coffee and Tea, to end off the evening along with some dessert. When we saw Kunefe on the menu, we got excited, and I was curious as to what a Turkish brownie was. This is where they fell short. The Kunefe was not hot and cheesy and hardly any syrup over it. All we could taste was the layered pastry ice cream. The brownie was nice, but was not sure where the difference came in. The ice cream was nice.
If you happen to get Zizinhle as a waitress, you will be well looked after. There are also plenty of managers walking the floors to ensure everyone is OK.
So go check them out, we all had a good taste experience. We considered the sheep's head soup, or grilled deboned sheep head, and Mogodu. Let me know if you tried it.
Thank you to the owners and management as well as the staff for their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe are regulars at Nomad. My friends, boyfriend, and I always go to the Mall of Africa branch and Monte. We used Monte this time due to being in the area.
Yesterday, we picked a table that was not set. The waiter didn't bring extra cutlery, and when asked, he was distracted with another table and forgot. They had no bread prepared and stated that it was being made. I asked for turkish tea, and the waiter went away and came back to confirm that they didn't have any for weeks.
The food came, as well as the drinks. We waited for cutlery and got tired, then began to eat. 3/4 way through the meal, we asked for the cutlery again when the waiter reappeared and he brought it (when there was no real use for it). We asked for wet wipes and waiter again, was distracted. We asked again, and he said he forgot. The food came out slightly colder than normal. The bread still never came, and the meal was done.
When the so-called freshly baked bread came after the meal, it was cold and felt as though it was not fresh.
We called the manager and spoke to him about the above issues. He proceeded to say that their the food is cooked externally by Kream kitchens. Bread is prepared in the morning, and there wasn't any when we came in. He said he would speak to the waiter.
At this point, we are the customers, depending on good service for their expensive food, and were not satisfied with any of it. Their supply and internal kitchen issues are none of our business or concern, and having to put blame on kitchens or their prep procedure seemed that there was no accountability to their service. The waiter wanted to take the bill back instead of bringing the card machine. The lack of training and service is showing.
That one star is honestly too much for this review. Given your other poor reviews, it seems you guys don't care. Nomad Monte left a bad taste in our mouths, and we won't be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you are planning a special dinner or event or birthday party, I would think twice about booking here. I'm feeling really disappointed and let down by the restaurant. I booked a table for 2 on the 22nd of January for a birthday/Valentines day dinner for the 14th of February at 7pm. In my email I had requested rose petals on the table for a more romantic feel when we were dining, I was also told that on birthdays a complimentary dessert would be given or I could bring a cake in. My booking was confirmed almost a month in advance only for it to be cancelled 2 days prior to Valentines day without my consent. I then got in touch with the restaurant to confirm I still had a booking with special requests and I was told yes. Only to arrive at 18.40pm on the day to a bare table. I asked why I was seated at a bare table for 4 instead of the setting I had requested almost a month prior. I was ignored for about 20 minutes until my boyfriend arrived and the issue still had not been rectified. The manager then approached a few minutes after that to apologise and to attempt to set up the table only AFTER we had both been seated. To which I expressed my dismay as the surprise for my boyfriend's birthday and Valentines day had already been RUINED. It was very upsetting to be told my booking was missing the special requests when I had emailed 2 days prior to confirm and that other guests had their special requests fulfilled right infront of us when I probably booked WAY BEFORE all of them. We were offered complimentary drinks but ofcourse this wasn't honoured either as our drinks were still charged on our bill. And as you can probably guess, the complimentary dessert written happy birthday also was not honoured. Extremely disappointing...
