In doing my research for a review I was writing about Montecasino, I decided to visit a few of the restaurants which surround the casino and popped into Texas Wing Bar located near the entrance to the main casino floor. Despite the fact that the review was not about TWB, I was greeted warmly by manageress Noma, who is charm personified, I was given a delicious foamy cappuccino and shown into the lounging area, made comfortable and then she answered all my questions. As a result of my meeting this lovely young lady, I thought mmmmmm, let me write about it. Later, after my review of Montecasino was done, I returned to see Noma so that she could read it and hear that I was writing about her and TWB. However, she had left for the day. Prosper and Veg, the night shift managers were even more friendly and accommodating. I had some fries: wow - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with a secret spicy bite that my taste buds worshipped, chicken wings (ofcourse)and WOW WOW!! - deeeeeleeeeshusss!!!: tender, juicy with just the right amount of heat and grilled haloumi; soft and yet stringy and tasty which haloumi seldom is - while I relaxed and just soaked up the great vibes!! This place rocks!!!!!!! The wait staff are gorgeous, friendly, very professional and the service was excellent. These are happy people! My waiter was Mncedisi who is one of the nicest people I have ever met. And what a smile! Prosper and Veg were busy ..... it was nice to see managers interacting with the guests, being very hands on and basically churning up even more of a fun time. Prices are reasonable, the crowd a mix of singles, couples of all ages and a few older people. I met three young guys who told me they drive all the way from the Vaal side at least twice a week, just for the wings which TWB are famous for. So, for a "lekker" night out, superb food and delicious cocktails at affordable prices, get yourselves to Texan Wing Bar in Montecasino. You will want to post your own...
Read moreI will start off with what is on the menu. Description of Nachos:
Loaded Nachos
Crunchy corn chips topped with Texan cheese mix, bacon, green onions, sour cream and fresh guacamole
Tex-Mex Nachos
Fresh tortilla chips loaded with melted cheese and chili con carne, piled high with fresh guacamole, salsa fresca, jalapeños and sour cream
What you receive is a tasteless meal with what appears to be a cauliflower white sauce made with tomato scraps. Corn of chip? Is that because the fake cheese water like mixture, which lacked any cheese flavor, was soaked up by the soggy chips. The chili con carne from the Tex-Mex Nachos? Aplogies, I'm sorry, I missed both that and the salsa fresca. Oh yes and the jalapeños is an additional charge.
The Alamo burger and the Philly Cheesy Steak were great. The chips, however, were incredibly stale and oily. The young child with us also received chicken strips, but she had to wait for the sauce to arrive because the waiter was preoccupied. By that point, she had given up and just ate the chicken strips and what appeared to be three day old, reheated chips. Menu picture and description versus reality complete opposite.
All I received in response when I asked our server three questions and let our waiter know we weren't satisfied with the food was no answers, but the management did send the waiter back to apologize which we would expect the manager to do instead.
We opted to stop for a smoke break in the smoking area before departing. Only then did the manager arrive, not introducing herself. Just a sorry and a offering of a shooter to drink? Questions remain unanswered.
Our waiter with the little bit of pressure still did a good job.
This explains why there were lines at every surrounding eateries.
This is the spot to go if you want a quick bite and a beer. Other than that. It's a...
Read moreThis is a place my boyfriend and I regularly go to because we are a huge fan of the wings. I like it sweet and breaded with Kung Pao sauce, and he likes it spicy and unbreaded with JRU sauce.
The other dishes are good, but I haven't found something amazing yet. The philly cheese steak was great, and I liked the idea, but the steak strips were incredibly tough. The popcorn shrimp and sliders are good but also nothing special flavour wise, in my opinion. I am going to try the Burges next time I visit.
We like to go there to watch the football but we hardly ever get a good seat by one of the TVs and most of the TV screens are bombing out and there's a distinct loud buzzing sound in the background that they don't seem to plan on fixing.
I ordered two cocktails that they don't have, the strawberry daiquiri and the pina colada. So, I had to settle for a third option. I feel like there's always something wrong when we are there, but, I must say, the waitresses are usually fast and get the orders right. They are not necessarily over friendly or seem very happy to be there, though.
I just feel like the place needs a little LTC. The bathrooms are beautiful, but toilets are all skew, some flush buttons don't work, and the hot water gets hot really fast, so be careful not to burn yourself.
I would recommend it as a sports bar, but if they step it up a notch, it's even great for dates, birthdays, families, and friends. There's a beautiful view overlooking the casino, and it naturally has a vibe. It has 10 out of 10 potential because of location and their wing recipes, but I can't help but feel the employees and the restaurant need a little more...
