Korean bbq Restaurant - Jangsu Sky Beef — Restaurant in Seoul

I had one free night in Seoul and was really looking forward to some authentic Korean BBQ. Saw the 4.9 score here and figured place would be really great and special. First thing I see when I sit down is this ‘Review Event’ as the COVER to their menu. Where you get free dumplings and soda if you post pic and do google review. It even says not to do it on TripAdvisor because the reviews aren’t fair or something. Sure they don’t require a specific score but they do ask to check the review after you post it, so few people will go through awkwardness of doing bad review and showing to the server in person as they get free food.

The food wasn’t bad per se. it was just ok, it was fine. Nothing special. Pretty basic. Hot pot didn’t have much flavor, side dishes didn’t seem that fresh. Nothing memorable. Setting is also pretty sterile and uninteresting in a basement. At the end of the day it’s business so I guess props to them for working the system to make some extra $, and it’s working based on their score. but when I sat down and that was first thing I saw I felt a little cheated and pretty bummed to waste my one night on it. I even considered walking out. My fault for not reading any of the reviews and just looking at the score, as I’m sure they count on many...

Lovely quiet place, the advertising on the first floor says No. 9 beef, but it is indeed Jangsu Sky Beef. Walk down the stairs to B1 to a well appointed, spacious, high ceiling-ed restaurant where you will be greeted warmly by the lovely wait staff. They speak English as well, and can assist with recommendations. They will also help you grill your meat, and explain to you which of the side dishes can be paired with your meat! Any beef ordered will come with a small side salad, a chickpea pancake, kimchi, 2 sides of pickles, a seaweed soup, japchae, a chive salad to be paired with the beef, some onions, garlic and peppers for grilling, and a delicious smooth carrot veloute soup. We also ordered a mini soy bean soup which came with one side of rice - this was filled with zucchini and tofu. The staff were very lovely and friendly. At this price point, the Hanu beef is well worth it, and I would recommend this place highly as it is...
