Located in the bustling heart of downtown Seoul, Osegye Hyang offers a delightful dining experience that stands out, even in a city known for its culinary excellence. This restaurant is a haven for those seeking vegan cuisine, delivering dishes that are both tasty and thoughtfully prepared. While Osegye Hyang may surprise some by using store-bought dumplings, any initial disappointment is quickly overshadowed by their quality and the flavorful execution. It's a minor detail in an otherwise impressive menu. The food here speaks volumes through its freshness and the vibrant array of dishes that cater well to a vegan palette, reminiscent of what one might expect in cities like Melbourne, New York, or London. The service at Osegye Hyang is both quick and friendly, enhancing the dining experience. Staff members are attentive and efficient, ensuring that every meal is served with a smile and without delay. This level of service, combined with the restaurant’s cleanliness and organized setting, makes for a seamless visit. Price-wise, Osegye Hyang leans towards the higher end, which is not uncommon for specialty vegan eateries in major cities globally. Given the convenience, the quality of the food, and the overall dining experience, the prices feel justified. It’s a premium worth paying for those who appreciate good vegan food in a pleasant environment. In conclusion, Osegye Hyang is a solid choice for anyone looking to enjoy high-quality vegan food in Seoul. Its commitment to cleanliness, efficient service, and a menu that delights with every dish make it a must-visit for locals and tourists alike. Whether you're a seasoned vegan or just curious about plant-based cuisine, Osegye Hyang promises a satisfying culinary adventure.

This was the restaurant I was most excited to try in Seoul. The first time we came, the restaurant was actually closed - be wary of the hours posted on Google. Google made it seem like the restaurant was open but Apple Maps showed that it was closed, so we decided to check anyway and Google turned out to be wrong. If you do wind up in the scenario, don’t worry because Insadong has several other great options for vegans. So, we wound up coming back a couple days later and barely got seated! We ended up coming into the restaurant about 45 minutes before the staff was going to close the restaurant for a midday break. We promised them that we eat really fast and it was our last day in Seoul, so the staff graciously sat us down. We were so grateful for their kindness and understanding! In typical fashion, we ended up ordering a lot of food and the server was laughing as she was serving us - the meal service was really fast! They were even more shocked when we finished everything, haha! We ordered kimchi dumplings, tteokbokki, jjajangmyeon, fried chicken in a sweet & spicy sauce, and mushroom roll in hot sauce. We both loved everything! If I had to pick favorites, it would be between the jjajangmyeon and the fried chicken in sweet and spicy sauce. Though, the mushrooms were also great! Honestly, nothing was disappointing. The atmosphere is also rather interesting. They had an international vegan cooking channel playing on TV and lots of pamphlets and art about veganism, which made me happy and LOL. The restroom is also very clean. I would definitely come again if in Seoul and 100% recommend the food to vegans and non-vegans alike.

Fully vegan and Muslim-friendly (but not Halal-certified) eatery at Insadong Shopping Street, 5 to 10 min walk from Anguk Subway Station Exit 6. Quite crowded so be prepared to wait. Very nice traditional-looking setting with floor seating (shoes kept outside). They use vegetable broth instead of water to cook the dishes. All ingredients are non-GMO. Dishes with and without alliums / five pungent herbs are labelled clearly; majority allium-free. The menu mostly focuses on classic Korean dishes, with a few Western dishes. There are also several shelves selling vegan retail products. Everything is reasonably priced. Visited multiple times throughout my trip! P.S. This eatery is associated with Supreme Master Ching Hai. - Outer Leaves Stew 된장들깨시래기찜 (Allium-free) - Bean Paste Stew 옛날된장찌개 (Allium-free) - Vegan Fried Egg 비건 계란 후라이 (Allium-free) - Cirsium Setidens Bibimbap 곤드레비빔밥 (Allium-free) - Brown Rice Soy Meat with Vegetables 현미불구이쌈밥 (Contains alliums) - Mild Tofu Stew 순한순두부찌개 (Allium-free) - Perilla Soup with Noodles 들깨국수 (Allium-free) - Sweet and Spicy Chicken 양념 치킨 (Contains alliums) - Vegan Bulgogi with Rice 불구이덮밥 (Allium-free) - Spicy Wheat Meat Stew 불구이뚝배기 (Contains alliums) - Spicy Tofu Stew 매운순두부찌개 (Contains alliums; allium-free option available) - Vegan Sweet & Sour Pork 매실탕수채 (Allium-free) - Black Bean Noodles 비건자장면 (Contains alliums) - Fried Vegan Kimchi Dumplings 틔김김치만두 (Contains alliums; allium-free option available) - Vegan Spicy Beef Stew 두개장 (Allium-free) - Fried Mushroom Roll 표고버섯말이 (Contains alliums)

Extremely bad service by the staff.

We queued up at the restaurant’s door as instructed by the service staff and waited for 15mins before we were directed by the staff to our seat. At that time, another customer who was queuing with us walked over to the seat assigned to us and sat down. Strangely, the staff did not stop the customer and just asked us to continue waiting.

When we waited for another 10mins, the service staff did not pass us the order slip when we were seated until another 10mins later. We wrote our order in the slip and passed it to the same service staff, and she acknowledged it. We were waiting for about 25mins for our food when the same service staff came to our table to pass us another service slip, asking us to write our order again. We told her that we had already placed our order in the previous slip and had passed to her, but she just walked away. We had to walk to the counter to help her find our order slip. By then, we had already waited for 1 hour to have our dinner, but there was nothing served to us and there were no side dishes given. The only thing we had on our table was a bottle of water and 2 cups which were all taken by ourselves.

Since the food order was not ‘processed’, we asked if we could cancel our order but was told that the food had already been prepared, and cancellation was not allowed. We waited again for our food.

Although we had to wait unnecessarily (an hour) due to the poor service by the staff, no apologies were given.

I’m not sure about the food quality but my take is that do only come here if you want to be treated as non-existent throughout your dining experience- all the way from queuing, ordering and waiting...
