Pureun Byeol — Restaurant in Seoul

If you have watched one of those 1994's or 1988's or whatever old-fashioned Korean shows, and has a slight fantasy of eating makgeoli in an authentic looking old looking place, this is it. Oh man when I first stepped my foot into this place I nearly cried of joy because it's damn cramped, looked so authentic and the food was so great, the holy trinity of Scent, Vision and Taste has been fulfilled at that very day. Pros:

1. The authenticity. It's located in a very, very cramped place with very small pathway. It's like one of those places where only the people who knows that place would go. For some reason I do see a lot of reviews from foreigners but that also means the shop is becoming more recognized, which is a good thing!
2. The food is great. Pajeon and Makgeolli are fascinating. Kimchi and tofu is great! If you ask them for a kettle they would bring you one, so more authenticity! Cons:
3. The price. It's not the price you would expect from this kind of place. Never. The last time I went I spent around KRW 70k. Not a price you would expect from a Makgeolli place. If you are looking for a cheaper option, considering going to Jongno 5-ga market area.
4. The location. The first time I tried to find this place it was a nightmare, I went into the Japanese shop right next to it, thinking it was Pureun Byeol, and asked for Pajeon and the look that the waitress gave me... I was so embarrassed lol. The second time when I got there it was raining and I went into the wrong pathway and ended up going around the place. The third time was the charm but still very hard to explain it to other people who doesn't know where it is.

Recommended dishes:

1. Haemul Pajeon (w/ Makgeolli)
2. Kimchi w/Tofu (w/ Makgeolli) If you are in a legit place you should get legit stuff. What not to get:
3. Jeyuk bokkeum Just saying if you want 'spicy pork', there are definitely better options...

Such good makgeolli! Visited in 2018 and there were friendly locals drinking and eating here too, which was super nice to see. The staff is very kind. The best makgeolli I've had! They serve it in a kettle and bowls, the traditional way. The food was so tasty too! They even had a couple of vegetarian options. I think the place only opens...
