This was the first restaurant we visited upon arriving in Myeongdong, mainly because it serves halal food and we were too tired to continue searching for another halal option. Overall, the experience started off well—the staff welcomed us warmly and offered us a table for dining in.
However, the situation took a disappointing turn when we mistakenly disposed of our empty coffee cup (bought from outside) in the restaurant’s rubbish bin near the cashier. We are aware that outside food and drinks are typically not allowed, and we respect that. But we were not warned or informed about this policy when we entered.
After we had finished our meal, we threw the coffee cup into the bin without thinking much of it. To our surprise, the cashier became visibly upset and started scolding us in Korean. What made the situation worse was that he retrieved the coffee cup from the bin and handed it back to us in a very rude manner.
This was quite a shocking and upsetting experience, especially as it was our first time dining at a restaurant in Korea. While we completely understand and accept the restaurant's policy, we believe the matter could have been handled in a much more polite and respectful way. A simple, courteous explanation would have been more than enough, and we would have gladly apologized.
