After a week of barcelona and walking past it many times it seemed like a good place to end our stay. The place certainly looks nice and its not expensive, or so they say. The most expensive dish I saw was fish with lobster for 35 euros.
My girlfriend ordered duck and the waiter recommended me the special seabass, We ordered two cavas and water for dinner. Dinner came quickly but instead of duck my girlfriend received an entrecote steak, Apparently duck and entrecote steak sound very similar. Not even five minutes after the entrecote was returned he returned with the duck plate. Really? A new plate in under five minutes? This must be one hell of a chef. Overall the dish wasnt warm, it was a small portion, and it looked like it was composed of some kitchen leftovers. My girlfriend allready felt bad for sending back the first plate, so she didnt feel like mentioning this again. We never received our water and afterwards the waiter seemed to be dodging us. The seabass was okay, and was served with half a tomato and some potatoes. Nothing too special.
When I finally asked for our check, we received our check with the entrecote and the water still on it, and the price for the seabass was 38 euros. Again, really? It costs double of everything on your card but you didnt mind mentioning that? What a rip-off! If I was gonna spend that much money I was gonna get the lobster dish instead. We called the waiter again about the water and the entrecote and got the right bill.
what should have been a great last night was overshadowed by this bad experience. This is just another tourist trap in a shinier disguise. beware what you order, also the use of microwaves etc makes me wonder about the freshness of some ingredients. After a week of barcelona I can say I ate a whole lot better for a whole lot...
Read moreDo not go to this restaurant, not even as a last resort.
We ordered 6 plates of tapas and this is how they came out:
Garlic mushrooms - the only nice thing we ordered. Although it's expensive for what you're served.
Chicken wings - dry and no flavour.
Potatas bravas - we sent this back and had it removed from the bill. They tasted stale and like they've been cooked a long time ago and then re -heated in a microwave.
Ham croquettes - we couldn't taste any ham, it was just fried mash potatoe, we didn't finish this plate as it wasn't nice.
Fried Calamari - we sent this back and removed from the bill. If you deep fry rubber bands they would taste better than what was served.
Garlic bread - while it tasted ok its not quite what I expected, it was 4 small slices of bread with garlic spread.
A few other disappointing things, when I said some of the food was inedible, two different waiters tried to tell me that's how it should taste. I think this is insulting and they are lucky we didn't walk out without paying for the bill entirely. Also they took away all the plates while I was still eating.
There is nothing "Catalunya" about this restaurant, if you're hungry and nothing else is open you're better off going to a late night kebab shop.
My dog at home eats better than what I was served here. Save your money and...
Read moreI WOULD GIVE THIS PLACE 0 STARS IF I COULD. Avoid this place at all costs. They have staff outside the door trying to entice people to come in. Any restaurant worth its salt doesn’t need to do that so that was an immediate red flag. They took our drinks order and brought water in 2 opened bottles which made me question if it was mineral water or tap water. We ordered the following from the tapas menu: Patatas bravas, ham croquettes, fried calamari, chicken wings and bread. When the food arrived it looked very suspect. After trying the patatas bravas, it tasted like it was previously cooked and reheated, dry as hell with no fresh fried crispiness. The calamari was also flavourless with a rubbery texture and no taste. When we highlighted this to the manager, he tried to justify that was how the food is meant to taste, ridiculous. We managed to get these 2 items taken off the bill. The rest of the food was just about edible but I wouldn’t say it’s authentic tapas; chicken wings looked anaemic, garlic bread was just bread with garlic spread and the ham croquettes were tasteless and served on a bed of stale salad. Final point, the place is run by Indians so again, speaks volumes for authenticity. Avoid like the plague, plenty of other nice places further down.
P.S. lots of 5 star reviews left recently… Something...
