We stumbled upon this restaurant after having a quick scan at eateries in the local vicinity. A short walk away from the bus station.
Initially we had trouble translating the menu on display, our server was very helpful and came out with English menu's. We were sold. Upon entering the restaurant the bar area was filled with other diners chatting and enjoying their beverages.
Our server seated us and brought over more menus and a few entrées and even helped us decide what to order, by showing us pictures and pointing them out on the menu. After a short explanation of each dish, showing us his extensive knowledge we settled on foie gras with honey on toast, oyster mushrooms with scallops and bonito flakes, grilled razor clams and finally the Iberian pork shoulders with potatoes and padron peppers.
The oyster mushrooms was the first to arrive on our table, the meaty mushroom with the sweet scallop and additional umami from the bonito flakes was a delight. Then the razor clams were next to arrive, fresh with a slight char from the grilling that only a bit of seasoning and lemon juice was enough to accentuate the natural sweetness. My personal favourite was the creamy foie gras with honey, crunchy toasted bread and flakey salt on top. Finally the large plate of seared, juicy Iberian pork shoulder with thin and crispy fried potatoes rounded off the evening. Each dish was done to an exceptional standard.
Kudos to the server (which I suspect is the owner/manager) for making us feel...
Read moreWe got to Barcelona on a Friday early evening and our hotel concierge recommended this place almost across the street! Usually you don't get such amazing food and service at one of "those" places... The prices are accomdating for all levels. Marcos the waiter from Cuba, but now definitely a Barca guy,, is amazing with the service and food he recommended. We had a few different tapas kind of appetizers which were all tasty and well presented. We ordered Pina Colada drinks without alcohol that were to die for. I know I know who doesn't order wine when in Spain?!?! Yeah that would be this girl! Finally the entree came. The grilled Iberian Pork with fried patatas and piquillo peppers. No ketchup needed here! All was well seasoned and delicious. The portion was more than enough for two!! As we sat there the place started to fill up with Friday night regulars. Groups of distinguished ladies out for the evening and families with young children ended up surrounding us. All were comfortable and happy to be there. This place is like the CHEERS pub of Barcelona!! And clearly the wait stuff does know...
Read moreA fantastic introduction to Barcelona! This was our first stop after a long day of travelling from America. Service was fast and our waiter was extremely accommodating, speaking English with us (and some Spanish with my AP Spanish-student cousin) and making excellent recommendations for drinks and dishes. The simple cheese plate and tomato bread were divine, and the garlic shrimp was seriously the best shrimp I’ve had in my life. My mom said the same about the sausage as well. I’m a pescatarian and had no trouble finding plenty to eat, and most of my dishes were vegetarian friendly as well. The menu also makes distinctions for all sort of dietary restrictions and allergies, including gluten. Drinks were very good as well - the Mango No. 5 and Jack Sparrow cocktails were to die for! Overall a great experience with super friendly service and...
