Nice aesthetic, poor service, over priced and average food. Was really excited to try this place, and left it for our last night/meal. Unfortunately it was a real let down, and service was slow to say the least. We were seated up the back, next to where the cutlery and dips are kept. We asked if we could be moved either outside or to another table and sadly, the said they couldn't, which is fair enough. One of the servers put down our starter and never said a word - burrata which was €17. He probably had the worst attitude out them all. The waitress cleared it and asked us if we wanted desert- although we had already ordered our mains at the beginning, so they were obviously forgotten about. After reminding her of our order, she said they were coming - without an apology. Waited an hour and a half for our mains from when we came in, that were bang average (pasta and a wagyu burger). Also had to ask twice for another drink, that had been finished for some time. One of the more polite waitress’ came over after I had finished my burger, and was picking at my full portion of chips, and said are you done whilst i had food in my mouth, starting to take my plate away. I said no, and she left the tin container of chips off the plate but continued to take everything else away, and then started wiping the table clean(?). At the start, they brought us bread and olives and charged us for them, although we both didn't touch the olives. Our total bill was €112 for a starter to share, pasta, a burger and 2 drinks, which i could forgive if the food was delicious but it really wasn't anything special. I’m not one to leave a bad review of a place but I felt obliged to as the aesthetic of the restaurant is really inviting, however it is let down by the price, the quality of service and general indifference of the...
Read moreWe’ve always loved this place, but recent changes have been disappointing. The portions are smaller, olives are no longer served at the beginning of dinner, and, most importantly, the service has noticeably declined.
One of the biggest issues was the lack of attention from the hostess and staff. Despite multiple requests to keep the terrace doors closed on a cold 10-degree night, they outright refused, leaving us to get up repeatedly just to block the draft. No one acknowledged the inconvenience or tried to offer a solution.
Service was slow and disorganized. It took 40 minutes just to take our order, plates weren’t cleared promptly, and no one offered coffee, dessert, or drink refills after we finished our mains. While we were reminded that our table was reserved for two hours only, no one actually enforced it. Given the slow pace of service, even if they had, they wouldn’t have been able to bring everything on time anyway.
To make things worse, despite the listed closing time of 1:30 AM, the lights were turned on and the bill was brought at 12:30 AM without us even asking. The staff, instead of attending to guests, just stood around chatting and waiting for us to leave.
When we requested a table change, there were no available options further from the terrace doors, and no apology was offered. It felt like they simply didn’t care about guest comfort. On top of that, the advertised tarot reader is never actually there, no matter the day or time we visit.
Overall, it’s disappointing to see the quality decline so much. The experience no longer matches the vibe this place was known for, and unfortunately, we won’t be...
Read moreI rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was truly disappointing on multiple levels.
I contacted Gala via email two weeks before our reservation to ask if they could write “Happy Birthday” on the dessert for my husband’s birthday. No reply. Not even a courtesy acknowledgment. Still, I arrived prepared — I brought birthday number candles and those sparkling firework candles to make the moment special.
When we arrived, I politely explained everything to the hostess and handed her the candles. She told me “yes, we saw your email,” but that writing on the dessert was not possible — fine, I can respect that. I asked her to at least place the candles and sparklers on the dessert when it came. She agreed.
Fast forward to dessert time: the plate arrives completely bare. No candles. No sparkler. No effort. I kindly reminded the waitress, and she took it back only to return with a broken taper candle cut in half, like something from an old candelabra — not the festive number candles I had provided. No sparkler either.
I honestly don’t understand the hype around this place. They completely ruined a moment that mattered to us, and for no good reason.
To make matters worse, the food was mediocre at best. We ordered the tagliata cooked medium-well, and it arrived so rare it practically mooed. Thankfully they took it back — or perhaps they just grilled it again. We’ll never know.
Honestly, Gala might photograph well on social media, but behind the aesthetics is a disorganized, inattentive, and uncaring restaurant experience. I wouldn’t return, and I wouldn’t recommend it — especially for any occasion that...
