My order consisted of a large haddock and large chips. The haddock was true to its size, a substantial large fillet cooked perfectly with a delightful crunchy batter. It was delicious & undoubtedly the best fish I have had thus far on my "Costas Chippy Tour," and I do not anticipate it being easily surpassed. However, the chips, while cooked well, were quite short, as if they had all been cut from small potatoes. The portion size was also a very average medium, falling short of the large portion that I had ordered. Our original intention was to try the Northern Sole, which was closed, as our last visit to "Ray's 1" was extremely disappointing, and we had vowed never to return. Ketchup is complimentary, but any other sauces such as tartare have to be paid for as an extra. We became quite irritated at just being given 4 small sachets at once and having to re ask the busy waitress 3 times. My advice to Ray's would not be to be so tight and either put plenty on the table in the first instance or use ketchup bottles as it would alleviate frustration all around.
Our most recent visit has somewhat redeemed my previous experience & opinion, although my partner would disagree as hers, once again, was disappointing, but that is a separate review in the main.

My partners overall meal experience was a 2/5 mainly due to a small poor quality sausage & a child size portion of chips when she ordered a large leaving her coming...
Read moreMy husband, daughter and I have just returned from a lovely lovely holiday in Benidorm. Our daughter has been a few times but my husband and I were newbies to Benidorm. After seeing Rays 1 (situated in the old town) on a few YouTube videos, we had to try it. Although it's only a small restaurant, they could not of been more welcoming. We had heard that the portions were quite generous, but I think that's an understatement. You will definitely not leave here hungry or disappointed. Everything we had was delicious. My husband had large fish and chips, and he couldn't eat it all. I had the pork, which was so tasty and our daughter ordered the chicken. It looked like they had given her half a chicken, it was boneless and covered in a lovely crispy herb coating. The staff were so welcoming and friendly to. An overall excellent experience. There are 3 Rays Chippys in Benidorm, but they are owned and run by different peoplee. Rays 1 is the original and by far the best, it's in the old town down a little side street. Do not go to the others as they no where near as good, infact they...
Read moreWe really liked it here. My man got the large cod special with large chips which comes with bread and butter plus a drink, he got a beer and I got the regular cod with regular chips and an irn bru. I expected a can but it was poured out of a bottle and I wasn't fond of their curry sauce that's the only areas for improvement. It's in the heart of the old town and everything is cooked fresh to order. Chips are thick and well cooked. The fish was fresh, batter light and crispy. No bones. Absolutely melted in the mouth.
We've been back again. We both got a special No. 2, him cod and me haddock this time with gravy. Loved it, we'll be back.
Back again today, it had been too long. This time I tried the special number 1 with the hake, delicious & he had his favourite, a special number 1 with cod. Lovely to see plenty of Spanish speaking customers in & hear them being accommodated in Spanish. That made my partner feel extra welcome although I've told him before he can't be the only Spaniard who likes a decent...
