Salón Italiano Heladería — Restaurant in Cádiz

I’d say average at best (in comparison to Italy, elsewhere in Spain or even the U.S.). According to my local tour guide, this is supposedly the best. Cannot comment on others in Cádiz but the ice cream here was (1) icy, (2) lacked flavor (turron & hazelnut (hard to distinguish which was which because of the absence of flavor) and (3) tasted more like ice milk than ice cream (in that it was watery, not creamy).

I lived in Florence 3 years so have had EXTENSIVE exposure to ice cream and even known great ice cream makers.

I was disappointed because it had been highly recommended. As for me, I wouldn’t recommend it if you are in search of good ice cream.

Rather disappointed, been here a few times over the years I think it trades a bit on being an institution. On my last visit it was early and so wasn't too busy but still chaotic service. Went with a friend, our order was mixed up so that sort of got my hackles up a bit. How can you mix up an order for ice cream?. Both of us have experience in catering and hospitality so we just put it down to tired waiters. Didn't bother to draw it to the water's attention. I found the ice-cream lacking in flavour. Soy el tontito de los helados. Lo reconozco. Ya puedo estar lleno de comida, que cuando veo la marquesina con los helados expuestos me vuelvo loco. He ido infinidad de veces a Cádiz, sin embargo, nunca me había tomado un helado allí.

Se trata de una heladería clasicona. Situada en el centro de la ciudad, cerquita de una plaza, punto positivo para poder tomarte luego tu cucurucho o tarrina en los banquitos. El local es espacioso y tiene mesas fuera, pero suele estar bastante lleno y además te cobran un suplemento si te lo quieres tomar allí. Es habitual encontrar colas para pedir.

Tienen una gran variedad de sabores y lo cierto es que no están malos. Aunque debo ser sincero, no son ni de lejos los mejores que he probado en mi vida. Estaban ligeramente aguados. La textura sí que me gusta mucho. El servicio es regular. Ni una sonrisa en la cara, ¡está vendiendo helado, por favor! En cuanto al precio, bueno, para ser Cádiz y dado el nivel, creo que es medio alto. No te vas a arruinar, la verdad, pero esperaba otra cosa. Ya sea tarrina o cucurucho te lo sirven por bolas. Es decir, si te pides una tarrina mediana de dos bolas, son eso, dos bolas, no dos sabores. Te cuesta lo mismo que el cucurucho. Estoy acostumbrado a otra cosa.
