Do NOT be fooled by its location! This place is not a tourist trap with flavorless food. I have traveled throughout Europe, visiting 25 countries along the way. Typically, tourist restaurants contain one (or more) of the following:
They have pictures of their food near the entrance. They have the words "authentic local cuisine" or words to that effect. They are located just outside a major tourist attraction.
Had I not been pressed for time, having to meet someone in Madrid within six hours, I would have strategically avoided this place....and that would have been a crying shame!
My family and I ordered four dishes to share: the Chipirones (baby calamari), Bacalao con la mimbre salsa (Cod in tomato sauce), Revuelto con Jamon y patata (scrambled eggs with ham and potatoes), and the Rabo de Toro (Stewed Oxtails).
The oxtail was among the best I've had in all of my five years in Spain. It was extremely tender and served with a typical sauce, essentially a thick brown gravy with onion, garlic, and pepper flavor (amazing flavor!).
The baby calamari was tender and crispy -- perfectly balanced with it being not too crispy and not too rubbery. In other words, the way it should be cooked. It was lightly breaded with a subtle seasoning of salt and garlic that accentuated the fresh fish taste while balancing it with just the right flavor.
The Bacalao/Cod was a nice surprise, cooked in a slightly sweet tomato sauce with subtle undertones of red bell peppers, parsley, olive oil, and a hint of salt.
The scrambled eggs with Ham and potatoes were exceptional! This was my second favorite dish after the oxtail. The potatoes were cooked just perfectly, mixed with just the right amount of ham, giving it the perfect smoked and cured flavor. Additionally, the ham was in a proportion that the dish was not overly salty.
Do yourself a favor and visit this place. It is the perfect conclusion to an amazing tour of the neighboring Alhambra! It will be just the thing to satisfy your considerable appetite after all of the walking you've...
Read moreDon’t go here. One of the rudest customer service experiences we have encountered, and we’ve travelled to many countries around the globe. We wanted to have some drinks whilst waiting for our Alhambra tour to start. Firstly, staff ignored us while we were standing around waiting for a table. We then walked into the undercover table area (which was mostly empty) and was told the tables were for eating, if you’re only drinking you need to sit on the bar tables outside. By this logic, they’d rather keep over half of their restaurant empty, just because of this policy that drinks must be served at the bar tables only. By the way this was at 16:30, certainly past peak lunch time hour so it’s not like they were keeping tables free for lunch patrons.
We said the bar tables are all taken, he shrugged and dismissed us. We walked outside and a second staff member also shrugged and dismissed us. So did a third. We just wanted a drink or two, and were even willing to pay their exorbitant tourist prices.
Seems they don’t want our money! shrugs.
Edited to add: we came back to ask for a tourist feedback form and, not only did the staff refuse to give it to us, they also yelled at us and told us to “get out” and “to speak Spanish.” Wow. (We were born and raised in an English speaking country so no we cannot speak...
