This Renaissance-style palace stands in stark contrast to the surrounding Moorish architecture, creating an intriguing blend of different artistic influences within the historic site.
Built in the 16th century, the palace was commissioned by Emperor Charles V to serve as a symbol of his power and influence. The design, attributed to architect Pedro Machuca, showcases the Renaissance style that was popular in Europe at the time. The building's façade features classical elements such as Doric and Ionic columns, as well as a grand circular courtyard at its center.
As you enter the palace, you'll be greeted by the impressive rotunda, which is open to the sky and surrounded by two levels of colonnaded galleries. The circular shape and open-air design create a unique atmosphere, offering a sense of harmony and tranquility.
Inside the palace, you'll find two museums: the Museo de la Alhambra, which houses a collection of Islamic art and artifacts, and the Museo de Bellas Artes, which displays a selection of Spanish art from...
Read moreAn amazing, unique place! But be prepared to endure one of the worst museum services in Spain and not only. More than one hour of queuing on heat (even with booking on the internet), unfriendly staff, lack of information. Do not take under any circumstances the night tour at Alhambra (try to book the day tour on internet!). We did because there were no more day tours tickets but was a big mistake. We were rushed through the place in darkness as there was almost no lighting (in spite of the huge ammounts of money they make from the tourists) an we were forbidden to take photos using the flash (as I said it was really dark). A surprisingly bad experience!!!! Don't miss the place for anything in this world but, just in case, be prepared for bad service. We visited the place as individual tourists but still can't figure out how that was possible in a place like this! All the other places we visited in Spain the service was excellent and...
Read moreThe Palace of Charles V is a fascinating stop inside the Alhambra complex and such a unique contrast to the surrounding Nasrid architecture. As I walked through its massive stone walls, I was struck by its Renaissance design — so different from the intricate Moorish style nearby, yet equally impressive.
The highlight for me was stepping into the circular courtyard at the center. It feels grand and almost theatrical, with perfect symmetry and columns that make for stunning photos. 📸 Standing there, you really sense the ambition and vision of the era when it was built.
The palace also houses two museums, perfect for learning more about Granada’s rich history. It’s a peaceful place to wander and reflect before continuing to explore the rest of the Alhambra. A true architectural gem that adds another layer of depth to the...
