Honest, true-foodie review.

My boyfriend and I ventured into this neighborhood on our last night in Granada and were super excited because the area was gorgeous and we passed so many promising places- Los patos was one of them. After seeing good reviews, we went in to get some drinks and some food to pick on.

We sat outside and the atmosphere was nice, but that’s the end of which our experience was pleasant.

First, we explained to the server that we were there for drinks and small things to pick on and asked for recommendations and settled on the beet/coconut soup (€12) and mar y montañas pállela (€20, as per her recommendation of trying the rices).

After we finished our first beer, we waited for 10-15 minutes with empty glasses before my boyfriend flagged down a server to order another drink. At a certain point, I saw a table next to us of 5 or 6 people ALL raising their hands to get someone’s attention to order more drinks before someone got up to confront a server, so it seems we were not alone in this. Mind you, there were probably 5 tables in the whole outdoor dining area.

But here is the real kicker- when we got the check, it turns out that the bread that they asked if we wanted is not free, it was €3/person… not a big deal, but wow for mediocre (at best) bread. Turns out if you go to the DESSERT menu, you’ll see this… as if people are ordering dessert (bread) before their meal. First red flag.

Then, we see that the rice was €20/person. Because apparently (if you check the fine print at the top of that menu page) it claims that you can only order the rice by order-per-person, no two people can share one serving- there is a two person minimum. So yes, our bad for not noticing that, but if a restaurant is going to charge these prices, I expect a server to explain all of this to us which they did not.

Bottom line- this is a tourist trap. We are foodies who don’t think twice about spending money on good food experiences- Michelin star, omakase- you name it. And we fully respect and appreciate the service industry, but we also appreciate transparency and quality service. Say what you want about the tipping culture, but when your livelihood is riding on the quality of service you provide to paying customers, you have incentive to provide good service and if that were the case here, there would be no misunderstandings tonight....

I love this upscale hotel restaurant. They serve elevated Spanish food in a very chic setting. I don’t care for sardines but the chef made it work with heirloom tomatoes, pickled pearl onions and avocado purée. The bacalao croquettes were tempered by a nice aioli. I like grilled octopus and this one is up on my list. It came with puréed root vegetable and a nice paprika sauce. My son loved the flamenquin, a meat and ham roll with artichoke flower, truffle and mayonnaise center. It was my first time having it and it was too rich for my taste. The chocolate dessert was one of the best I’ve had. It was flavored with rosemary, ginger jelly and kumquats. If I have a chance to visit Grenada again, I will order their tasting menu. I have very mixed emotions about our experience at this restaurant. First of all the good. The staff were all really friendly and professional and the food was well prepared and presented. We had the rio frío caviar with a glass of champagne and then the Turbot and the Peking duck. All delicious. Then the not so good The patio area was only being used for drinks and not the restaurant. The main restaurant itself is very disappointing. It feels very corporate and bland, for a five star hotel we felt the furniture and the ambience were not very good, it certainly did not feel five star. The part of the restaurant we were seated in felt very much like a corridor. There was too much lighting and we left the restaurant happy with the food and service but overall let down. It is unlikely we will return.
