Welcome to the barrio, Bunny Chao! You’re going to be sick of me.

The people behind Caravan cafe in Lavapies have opened a charming spot for Asian street food in Anton Martin. The menu is small, but varied. We tried the strip club salad and both curries with rice.

Hear this: 🚨the strip club is the best salad in Madrid, right now🚨 I almost don’t want to gush that much about it, for fear that so many people will go that getting my hands on this salad becomes difficult. Rare strips of beef mixed with spring onion, cilantro, mint, raw green beans, bean sprouts, and red onion. Perfection. And although it’s not tear-inducing, like the traditional Thai version of this salad, it’s still pretty spicy for Spain. Some Spanish customers sat near us ordered the same and said, “Que pica eh?” 🌶️

Curries were yummy and homey, but the salad is the star of the show.

Loved the small dining table, where they sit you communally. The service was lovely. Jon, our waiter, was attentive and kind. Jars of tap water are brought out upon seating, which is a treat in madrid. Open kitchen lets you in on the action.

No reservations, so come in as small a group as possible if you’re looking to quickly snag a table or try right at opening. If you have to wait, bar la Esperanza just across the street isn’t a bad place to spend a 20 minutes.

Would love to see some tofu or seitan on this menu in the future. As an Asian customer, I lowkey think the protein-based big plates should come WITH rice as opposed to having to order it separately, but at least the portion of rice was sufficient.

Paid ~19€/pp for 3 dishes and one bev. I’ll be back to try the rest...

I wanted to check the place after the reviews I read.

The place is nice, good atmosphere, I ordered the green curry and rice (the curry comes without rice)

The curry was a disappointment, was lacking spicy flavor and eggplants , an authentic Thai green curry is very spicy, so I asked for a bit of spicy souce to eat with the dish... To my surprise they charged me extra for the souce, this is the first time I got charged for asking chilly, and I understand they make it especially but when I ask for it they didn't tell me it cost an extra.

Furthermore I couldn't finish the dish, it was big (something the waitress should have advised me before) and I wanted to take the rest as takeaway to eat at home, but to my surprise they don't have this option... So down the drain half of the dish.. Que pena.

To conclude, a place that has only few main dishes should prepare them to perfection!

P.s. I told them my comentry at the end of the meal and still they charged me extra for the souce..everything with a beer cost 20€ a but...

New Asian fusion restaurant in Madrid, great discovery. Small menu but very well balanced and executed. A nice mix of Indian, Thai and Vietnamese food. The rice mint salad was great, very refreshing. The Pho has a very good flavor, although missing some 🔥, and Sriracha and Hoisin sauces on the side. The Thai chicken curry was delicious and mild, adapted to Spanish levels of spiciness. The service is great, super friendly, bringing water as you get seated. Provided great recommendations and explanations. Adding tofu or seitan options to the curries would make great vegan options. So giving 4 stars for now, but probably close to 5, once they refine the menu and provide more spicy levels, will come back soon. UPDATE: Visited again, top notch service and atmosphere, and tried the Indian and Thai Curries, great flavor and very nice texture

Good quality and fresh with deep flavour… Nice food and it’s in the right casual and rustic setting with welcoming and efficient team. Unsure that the mix of ethnic flavours really work on one small menu and could be better to concentrate more fully on Thai or Indian street food items. For example, the green curry is tasty and quality ingredients but not Thai flavours (lived in Thailand for many years so I know). There are so many awesome street food items from India that could be amazing here and this concept is missing in Madrid. (Worked in India many years so I’m familiar with that also) Nonetheless, give Bunny Chao a try and let’s see how they evolve. Wishing them well!
