I will start by saying I really like this place. It has a great atmosphere for having a drink with friends or a date. I ate here for the first time today because I had seen that they have a pastrami sandwich which they claim on their menu is just like Katz deli in New York. Omg please please do not make a statement like this if you can not back it up. Katz deli is a legend and this pastrami wasn’t even close. The meat tasted more like roast beef and the bread was toasted and hard. It had arugula and this special sauce. No mustard. And to top it off a double cereza will cost your 4€ and the bread they bring you without saying anything will cost you 1.5. But the pate that the bread came with was bomb so I didn’t mind the extra charge. But I do hate sneaking charges like that.

Hipster spot, heavy on atmosphere with a great soundtrack and a retro vibe. Meal started off with a hummus amuse bouche that was tasty. We sampled several menu items, the “Gildas” were a tasty surprise, they get them from the Mercado down the street so that was great to learn as the producer had dozens of different variations there when we visited them the next day. The “Bomba” was a tasty treat that was like a deep fried cottage pie with aioli garnish. Ensaladilla Rusa was fine, we have had better for sure. Chicken Meatballs were liked by half the party, disliked by the other half due to the curry flavor. Service is fine, it’s a hipster spot and you get the service that goes along with that.

Been looking forward to visiting La Esperanza for a while but our expectations were sorely let down on this visit. Twelve euros for two very standard Vermut with no accompanying tapa. The Vermut was also a very small pour, especially considering the price. The place was also very warm and although I appreciate electricity costs have rocketed I think considering the prices they charge they could have switched on the Air Conditioning units especially as we are going through a massive heatwave! On the positive the Russian Salad was excellent and the Croquetas acceptable.

My husband and I absolutely love this place. We have been living in Madrid for awhile now and one of our Spanish friends took us here the first month we were here. Since then we have revisited it at least 7 times. Anytime we have a friend in town we take them here and it is never a disappointment. We have also sent a few other people here and the feedback is always amazing. If you didnt have a good experience here I don't know what to tell you, maybe you have bad luck or higher expectations than most. For people complaining about the bread charge, it's pretty common in Spain that if you are brought bread at dinner and you eat it you get charged. It generally isn't free unless it's given as a tapa at a bar and usually it is not a whole basket. It is loud, crowded and busy and I love the whole atmosphere of it. If you are looking for a quiet romantic dinner this isn't your place. If you are looking for a bit higher end tapas restaurant with incredible food and a really cool retro atmosphere then this is it! Make a reservation and you won't have any issues. Tip: Try the Atún, it is...

What a wonderful place! We came here on our first night in Madrid after a long day of travel and I am so happy we did. Even though they didn’t have a full menu (because they had a small fire in the beginning of the day) they did not let that stop amazing food and fantastic service. We sat at the bar and had some amazing tapas and beers. The sardines (which I am usually not a fan of) were fantastic! Then when it seemed that they had lost track of time with our last tapa, they felt bad and thus gave us a free drink! I mean we weren’t even upset. Then Ana one of the serves (who seems to be running the place) asked us if we were enjoying Madrid? And we told her it was our first night, she spent about 15 minutes helping us and giving us recommendations. What an amazing person. Best place in Madrid and Spain! Would recommend to anyone looking for a great atmosphere with good food and very...
