We came for a late lunch to Casa Amadeo and had the nicest time. The owner is super friendly and comes around to greet everyone. You'll notice his white hair and know that it's the owner. He comes and greets everyone in Spanish. He will ask you to take selfies together and please oblige as he enjoys it. We had the sangria (3,50), caracoles (8,00), torreznos (6,00), racion ibericos (12,00) and bread (0,60). We watched the bartender make the sangria and it was insane the number of ingredients he puts into it. There were at least 10. It was like he was making a potion. The result was DEEP and complex. The caracoles and torreznos were must orders. The snails were very flavourful. It had a medicine kind of flavour in a good way. You will need a lot of tissues to eat this. It also goes really well with bread. The pork was crispy and salty. Perfect pairing to an alcoholic drink. I wanted to order more from their menu as it's so big but we didn't have the space to eat it. The server recommends the stomach dishes as they are very flavourful. We saw a lot of people also getting the snails to go. I would definitely recommend this place as the atmosphere here is so chill and relaxed. The food is delicious and affordable and the service is good. It's right in the tourist area so it's perfect.

First wanted to come here before the craziness and meet the artist behind this establishment which i missed him by minutes. Anyway is a tapas place where the main dish are snails which i ate and were great only if you like the grassy mineral and soft texture of snails like a escargot, which they ads zarajos (milk fed lamb intestines) and chorizo and other proteins besides all the seasonings. There are fee areas of the restaurants which is outside, the two bar areas on top and the basement has two rooms also so don’t be fooled like we were to be small. We met the daughter Ima and she was a sweetheart and told us the story of how her dad built this restaurant and recommended other places for churros and bakeries. So back to the food, had fried zarajos ( crispy outer shell and soft inside), had some ham of course, callos (cow stomach with chorizo and pig skin from the hoof and tendonds) fried cod fish (bacalao), torreznos ( crispy fried pork belly) and had some ham croquettes. It is meant to share and have lots of wine or beer. Great cozy and is a cultural and culinary adventure…!!!!

I did a quick trip to Madrid to eat at Casa Amadeo, a restaurant that first opened its doors in 1942, and is famous for its snails. . The restaurant had a line waiting to get in, even after 81 years open. I was surprised how tiny it was. Basically, a hole on the wall. It is very nice inside, classic mid-20th Century Madrid, and packed to the gills! . I found a standing shelf spot around back after much elbowing my way around. . Service was excellent, particularly considering that these guys are slammed all the freaking time. . I had 1/2 ration of Callos a la Madrileña, 1/2 ration of Snails, and pint of beer. The callos were classics, with fat back and chorizo. The snails were outstanding as well, with a bit of chorizo and morcilla. Also, bread is included with the rations. The 1/2 rations are plentiful, even by Spanish standards. Get ready to eat with your fingers, or the plentiful tooth picks 🤣. All-in-all, 21€, tip included; well worth it. This place is a must stop when visiting Madrid!

I came here because of the excellent reviews of the snails. But after our experience, think this may only be the case on days the owner is present. We ordered their snails, croquetas, pork cracklings, and gazpacho. Which to our disappointment, the snails were only ‘just okay’ and everything else was good but nothing I would go out of my way for. The most disappointing part was that we could see a lot of potential for the snails to be amazing, but they were not cleaned well and even the sauce tasted dirty. I think this is where having the owner present is the important factor, as I’ve seen review after review of these snails being fantastic accompanied with mention of meeting the owner. That said, the sangria was phenomenal and I would totally come back for that and not order any food. So I wouldn’t say not to try this place, but definitely check if the owner is in before ordering food.

Unique tapas option in Madrid - different from the usual types of classic tapas you get in Spain. We ordered the pig tripe, pig ears, snails and crawfish. However, we did not feel like the taste of the tapas lived up to the recent raving reviews, though this might just be due to personal preference. The crawfish in particular was underwhelming. On the more classic side, they do a great patatas bravas ( I ordered a side of aioli with this) so this would be a safe (but more boring) option. Other than that, the service was good, the staff had impeccable memory and this was pretty impressive. We sat outdoors, there was nice breeze but also flies and pigeons (though not in the restaurant’s control). Overall would recommend if you’re in Madrid and wanting to try something different - but honestly, not sure if it’s a place I’d revisit.
