El Chacón — Restaurant in Madrid

Don't waste your time on this restaurant. One of the typical Spanish restaurants with a menu that's forty years old and waiters that think they own all of Madrid. The food itself is fine, but it's nothing special. Coming from Sevilla where tapas are the average portion size, we didn't think twice before ordering three or four dishes. Upon ordering, we realized the portions were full-sized dishes and our group of five couldn't finish everything. Though we also hate to waste food, we didn't want to throw up on our walk to the center of Madrid. We asked for the check and, in line with Spanish culture, the waiter asked if the food was okay. We said yes, of course, just too full to continue eating and he then proceeded to comment that "Americans only eat corn," which is the weirdest insult I've ever received. We paid our bill, which was certainly not cheap, and left. Visit one of the other thousands of restaurants with a menu like El Chacon in Madrid instead of wasting your valuable time and money...

I really wanted to try this place given the reviews and food options. Overall it was a very good place. Food was tasty (but salty) and it was very generous in portions (expensive as well) so we did small scale my original plans to order more. No one speaks English so we barely made do but it worked out. This place is BUSY and without reservations we barely got a table. Visitamos por primera vez el local, eran las 13:45 , pequeño con mucha afluencia de gente, preguntamos a un camarero si tenía alguna mesa y nos contesta que no , que solo barra, encontramos un hueco en barra y nos contesta que no es posible , que está reservada , le pregunto si podíamos reservar y nos contesta que no , que la barra se encuentra cerrada a partir de las 14:00 y que solo hay servicio de mesa ,me dice de manera grotesca "que es cordobés pero que se le entiende bien", ante tal contestación, mi mujer y yo nos vamos y llamamos por teléfono, nos dan mesa alta al lado de la barra para las 14:15, cuando esté señor "por llamarle de alguna manera ", nos dijo que lo tenía completo hasta las 15:30,.A las 14:15 nos presentamos puntuales y le comentamos que ya tenemos reserva , aún así nos ignora y cuela a varias mesas por delante , incluida a alguna pareja de conocidos ; ante tal situación nos dirigimos a otro camarero el cual si nos atiende muy amablemente , el susodicho camarero cordobés , se percata y le indica "colócalos en cualquier lugar de la barra " cuando teníamos reserva en mesa alta y además el mismo nos había comunicado que estaba cerrada la barra En resumen, UN IMPRESENTABLE con muy malos modales , salvo para sus amistades , siendo por nuestra parte en todo momento educados y correctos Quitando a este personaje que desmejora mucho el local, el resto del personal fabuloso y muy amables, incluso se disculparon con nosotros cuando les contamos lo ocurrido , la comida muy rica , el...
