Location & Ambiance: Allegra is undeniably situated in one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in Madrid—Salamanca. The area is known for its elegance, high-end boutiques, and refined dining scene, making it a prime location for a restaurant aiming to deliver a high-end Italian experience. The venue itself is strikingly eclectic, clearly designed to exude personality and a distinct identity. The interior combines Art Déco elements with a vibrant atmosphere.
Menu & Culinary Concept: One of Allegra’s strongest points is its adherence to authentic Italian cuisine. The menu, curated by Italian chef Luca Mazzini, showcases traditional recipes from various regions of Italy without unnecessary modifications. This commitment to authenticity is commendable, as many Italian restaurants abroad often adapt their dishes to local tastes. The selection is quite extensive, featuring a range of antipasti, fresh homemade pasta, and classic secondi piatti.
Dining Experience: We visited Allegra on a Sunday for lunch, focusing primarily on pasta dishes. Some of us even chose pasta as an appetizer, highlighting the appeal of the primi piatti on the menu. The overall experience was good—the food was well-prepared, and the flavors were in line with traditional Italian cooking. However, while the execution was competent, the dishes did not stand out in a way that would compel an immediate return. The quality was solid but lacked the kind of memorable flair that defines a truly exceptional dining experience.
Service & Value: The service was professional, and the staff was attentive, in line with expectations for a restaurant of this caliber. However, when considering all factors—food quality, ambiance, and pricing—Allegra leans toward the overpriced side. The wine list, in particular, showed a significant markup, and while the overall dining experience is pleasant, it does not necessarily justify the premium pricing.
Final Verdict: Allegra delivers a refined setting and a strong commitment to Italian authenticity, making it a visually and conceptually appealing dining destination. However, the execution of the dishes, while competent, does not reach the level expected at its price point. The experience was enjoyable, but there was no defining element that made it stand out as a must-visit Italian spot in Madrid. However, from a purely culinary standpoint, it remains a middle-of-the-road choice—good but not...
Read moreThis is a beautiful restaurant with a well designed interior. The service was quick and very attentive. Ingredients tasted fresh and had great flavors.
Our two entradas were the eggplant parmigiana and the zucchini fritti. The eggplant parmigiana had a delicious tomato sauce and the right amount of cheese. Eggplant was cooked perfectly. We loved this dish! The zucchini fritti was also delicious, thought a bit too oily. Seems like this dish could benefit from maybe an air fry preparation to not be so greasy. But, still nice.
Our main dishes were the gnocchi and the lemon chicken. The gnocchi was overcooked - nearly each bite of the gnocchi fell apart and it was difficult to eat it as an individual gnocchi. But, the truffle sauce was delicious and it was very cheesy. The lemon chicken was cooked well, super juicy and came with a wonderful glaze that didn’t overpower the flavor of the chicken.
We had hoped to order the spicy vodka rigatoni (2 persons) - we could not. The sauce must not be made fresh as it had meat in the sauce and we were hoping to have it vegetarian. It was a surprise to us for as the dishes are moderately priced, and I would normally expect that all details are prepared to order. That was a bit disappointing.
For dessert, we had the tiramisu - a small portion but a nice flavor. I think it could have used more flavor, but it was still nice.
We ordered espresso martinis as a dessert drink as well. We were a little disappointed here again as the waitress placed both drinks in front of my partner rather than serving me mine as well. There was space on the table and again just for the price and expectation of experience, we didn’t expect it.
Overall, a great restaurant that we hope...
Read moreIf you're looking for a culinary experience that goes above and beyond, Restaurant Allegra is the place to be. From the moment I sat down, I was impressed by the quality and creativity of the dishes. The pappardelle alla bolognese was exceptional, rich with flavor and perfectly cooked. The steak, requested by our client, was not only cooked exactly to order but also presented with a unique twist that pleasantly surprised us.
The lemon chicken stood out for its tenderness and juiciness, enhanced by a zesty and flavorful lemon sauce. Even the vegetables were a highlight on their own, cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. The antipasto set the stage for the meal with very good olives, bread, and some of the most flavorful olive oil I’ve ever tasted. The octopus, another standout, was cooked to perfection, making it a dish I would recommend to anyone visiting.
Adding to the ambience, the live piano music throughout the evening made the entire dining experience even more amazing. It complemented the meal perfectly, creating an atmosphere that was both elegant and relaxing. Restaurant Allegra delivers an outstanding dining experience with every dish promising a burst of flavors that are sure to please any palate. Highly recommended! This should capture the enhanced atmosphere brought by the live...
