I discovered this place when looking for a good Italian restaurant in Mogan and persuaded the hubby and daughter to go there.
It's a quaint little place, tucked away up a street coming off the marina.
We had our 1 year old with us tonight and unfortunately, she didn't play ball and let us eat in peace - not in the sense she was crying the house down but she was unsettled and kept wanting to come sit with me. One thing noted was that there were no changing facilities for the baby... A minor setback though and a quick nip round the corner to sort her out.
The girl that served us mainly seemed less than happy to be doing so. She seemed much chattier with other customers. I don't know if it's as we had kids? Although it isn't an upmarket place where kids would be out of place so I find it odd if this was the case. There was a gentleman that served us and he was lovely and friendly - I wish we'd had him all evening and it would have made the evening better.
Anyway, onto the food...
The food is lovely. Like, really lovely. To start, my husband and I shared a specials dish - basically mozzarella, tomato and basil. It was simple and fresh tasting. For our mains, my husband had a steak with potatoes and pepper sauce. The meat was lovely (I tried some). I had a porcini mushroom and pancetta risotto - absolutely delicious! A very generous portion too. I would have been more than happy had I stopped eating then however as all the desserts are handmade, it seemed rude not to have the tiramisu... And boy was it worth it! Beautifully presented and just delicious! Criss crossed chocolate sauce on a glass plate with the tiramisu on top with strawberries to garnish. Also, a sugar cube burning thus leaving a small amount of caramel (get it quick though before it hardens?). Highly recommend it. All of this was washed down with prosecco (very nice and not too dry), and the house red.
If you're in the mood for Italian, it's definitely worth it. We paid €112 for the shared starter, two mains, a pizza (for our 7 year old), two desserts, two apple juices, a coca cola, two proseccos and two red wines. We haven't had a three course meal as yet but was glad we did here.
I couldn't rate it down on the service as the food...
Read moreHad dinner at Caravaggio in Puerto de Mogán last night and honestly, I'm a bit disappointed. The location is gorgeous - you're right on the waterfront and the evening atmosphere is magical. But that's about where the magic ended.
We sat outside, which seemed perfect at first. The pasta dishes were... fine? Nothing that would make me rush back. Had the bruschetta to start and a few different pasta dishes at our table. Everything tasted decent enough, but for what they're charging, I expected to be wowed. Let's just say my wallet felt a lot lighter but my taste buds weren't doing backflips.
The real frustration kicked in after our main course. I kid you not, we sat there for 40 minutes (!) trying to catch someone's eye for the dessert menu. We eventually gave up - I mean, how long can you stare at empty plates? Such a shame because I was really looking forward to trying their tiramisu.
Look, I get that restaurants can have off nights, but this felt like nobody really cared. If you're going to charge premium prices, at least make sure your servers remember you exist. Beautiful setting? Absolutely. Worth the money and time? Not so much. There are better Italian spots in the area where your euros will go further and you won't feel like you've been forgotten in...
Read moreWe stopped in for lunch and had a pizza which was fantastic. Fresh dough, fabulous sauce and plenty of cheese, everything you want. However we were a little disappointed by the cost of one bottle of beer and one radler at 4.50 each, 9 total. I find the price quite shocking but it's made worse by the fact that their drinks menu does not list beer prices on it. Most places in the area are 2.50-3.50, so we assumed it would be around 3.50 at the most. Of course it's the prerogative of a restaurant what they choose to charge for any item, but if you are going to charge beyond the norm in an area for a beer and a radler have the decency to be transparent about this on your menu. It's a shame, as we wanted to come back for dinner, but as we normally like a few beers each with an evening meal this price...
