This review pertains to the teppanyaki station. The modern chic decor was very appealing. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist, who directed us to the outside dining area. On informing her, we had expected to eat teppanyaki, we were told we should have stated this when making our booking. Revisiting the online reservation abilities, there is no mention of this or ability to specify. The receptionist suggested we have a cocktail on their roof-top terrace while she re-arranged our seats. The view out to the water is spectacular. We decided on man tai's (choice of cocktails is very limited) and thought to have a pre-dinner snack of prawn tempura. We were quite abruptly told no food could be eaten in the lounge. Strange when the outdoor dining is right there too. The man tai's were very weak. For our dinner we chose the menu for 69 euros: Miso soup with coconut milk, grill prawns in a mayonnaise lemon sauce, surf and turf (Australian lobster and sirloin), chocolate mouse with apricot sorbet. The cook explained their teppanyaki style is a fusion between Japanese and Balinese. Curiosity was sparked. Also, due to Covid- related delivery issues, the lobster and sirloin were not from Australia but Maine Boston and New Zealand. The soup was enjoyable, even for those of us, who don’t like coconut. It tasted like green curry. The prawns were decent, though it would have been nice if they had been cut into bite-sized pieces to enable the use of the chop sticks. From here on the fool was edible but disappointing. It was cooked with little seasoning so bland and with extreme amounts of oil. The vegetables were soggy. The egg fried rice average. The grilled garlic appalling. The lobster was definitely not from Maine Boston but Mallorcan. People, who travel Internationally, know the difference. The same with the sirloin. The presentation was slap hazard. All on top of each other, making it hard to savour the individual unique tastes. The lobster was served as is in its shell forcing the use of hands. No lobster fork provided. Would have preferred already extracted bite-sized pieces. We ordered our sirloin medium rare and is what we got, but it had absolutely no taste so disappointing. It was too was served so there was no option but to use the fork and knife. When one guest asked for some of his meat to be cooked a bit more, the cook took out a gas torch and scorched it on the plate. We were pre-warned the dessert wasn’t a mouse but panna cotta, which was awful due to its grainy texture. Despite all of this, in light of the quantity and selection, no matter the origin, the menu price seems fair. The menus supposedly change every six months. Overall we were not impressed with the teppanyaki station experience. We will, however, go back to try the standard restaurant as the food, which was exiting the kitchen seemed to be of a much...
Read moreWe have been all around Mallorca and keep coming back to this beautiful island. This time I decided to celebrate my partner birthday in your restaurant. More or less, the service and the food were OK, but if you decide to give something special (like a gesture) for birthday or a special occasion, please do not give this type of thing to anyone, its an insult to the person celebrating. She mentioned on the reservation that is her birthday, but no one did anything. At the end of the dinner we decided to move to the smoking area and order a few cocktails to finish with. I mentioned to the waiter that it's her birthday again. The waiter's reply was - "We have some candles". I was thinking okay that will be enough, but I have never thought that he is going to bring just 2 candles with nothing 🤣🤣🤣. I dont know if I should be angry or just laugh of how ridiculous this is. He brought the candles with the words - "Oh, I know this might be the worst gift, but we dont have anything else". I dont blame the guy at all, but for a 5* place and expensive menu, you should do a bit better. Not to mention that we were overcharged and I had to mention this to the waiter so he can remove the items. The duty manager of the hotel gave us the details where we can send an email, but no one replied😁. Also, there was a demanding couple staying at the hotel and all waiters were focused on their table. I was pouring the bottle of wine for us. I'm usually not a person who complaints about anything, but if you go to a 5* place and spend over 200-250€ for dinner, you should do better. The...
Read moreA truly wonderful birthday dinner celebration at the Iberostar Katagi Blau Restaurant
I recently celebrated an important birthday milestone at the Iberostar Katagi Blau restaurant in Playa de Palma and, together with my guests, had a fantastic evening. The location, views, sunset, food, decor and service were all fantastic and exactly what I was hoping for. It was a truly memorable birthday evening for me and many of my guests enjoyed it so much, they are already planning to go back for sundowners and to try out the Katagi teppanyaki restaurant. I would especially like to thank Carolina Rodríguez (Guest Service Manager) and José Cortés (Maitre) for their help (and patience!) in organising the event, especially as it was at such short notice. They went out of their way to help me and to make sure my preferences and those of my guests were correctly noted, as well as providing a delicious diabetic dinner option for my friend Jenny. Much appreciated! A very special thanks also goes to Juan Pedro Martínez who was our head waiter for the evening. He worked tirelessly to provide a very friendly and excellent service from the minute we arrived and enjoyed aperitifs on the terrace and throughout the dinner for 23 people - not an easy task but he was always smiling and very attentive. When we mentioned the background music was too loud for us to converse comfortably, Juan Pedro immediately sorted the problem. Carolina, José & Juan Pedro are a real credit to Iberostar and the Katagi...
