!We are - apparently - sued by the owner! That would explain why this restaurant has seemingly not so many bad reviews. See the owner's reaction below. No apology, no self reflection. He assumes we came for Friday dinner (family with 7 years old) not to have nice evening but to hurt his business. He threatens us now with repercussions. I fully understand why majority of reviewers would took bad reviews back. It doesn't worth to hire a €10k solicitor to make right one dinner. However, I have done it. This kind behaviour in hospitality is unacceptable. If he attacked you in the past, feel free to join us as a witness.
The initial review:
Arrogant staff, swearing, forgetting orders. Avoid at any cost. My wife left crying. Literally. Woeful. We are visiting restaurants quite often and let me tell you, this one is 40% price of good Michelin, but has a service of pack of thugs. The highlight? Waiter with heavy Spanish accent claiming to be native speaker from Manchester teaching guests that fish and chips is processed food and can be served as croquettes... Brilliant and sad at the same moment. Speaks lots about honesty, quality and hospitality. The funny part? The same waiter laughing telling us that if we have a complaint we can come next day or never, he doesn't care. Probably owner...? He certainly acts like that.
Addition:
The restaurant responded with threats to guests who left angry and hungry, footing the full bill. So no, nobody ate. Saying opposite is plain and simple lie. I do not think this needs a comment. My wife cried, because this was the first time in our life we had to complain in a restaurant (we have done it very rarely, my wife has extensive experience from hospitality and deep understanding) and been lied to. It reminded her something from the past which is deeply personal. The fact that owner used it is unspeakable fault (he even hasn't been there!) and - see below - it probably will have consequences in this case. As you can see, I leave all types of reviews good or bad. And I am ready to defend my claim that this was the worst experience in any restaurant ever. Anywhere to anyone.
The test of truth (for an English native speaker):
Ask for waiter born in Manchester and enjoy his Mancunian.
PS: What would elsewhere there and then end with "sorry for misunderstanding, just pick anything else" becomes a lawsuit, because of waiter being rude. Now, because the owner threatens me and my family with lawsuit (see his response) I gathered evidence, obtained witnesses and hired a solicitor in Las Palmas. That is required, apparently, when you dine in El Caldero and complain. I shall inform you about the...
Read moreGreat presentation. The salad was indeed the star of our lunch. The combination of pine apple and everything else was just refreshing. Unfortunately, the paella was kind of disappointing. Not only it wasn’t that aromatic but all of the mussels were on the verge (or already went off the edge) of going bad. They were cold (colder than room temperature) and gave a bitter after taste. I’m fully aware that you don’t necessarily cook clams and mussels along in the pan. It’s ok to just top the paella with already cooked shell fish. But I don’t think it’s acceptable to sprinkle cold mussels on top of the paella. We didn’t say anything then because we didn’t see the point. We didn’t want an apology or a complimentary anything to make up for the mishap either. It just wouldn’t buy back our...
Read moreAn absolutely beautiful restaurant located on the seafront in Gran Canaria. We chose to eat here as we wanted to sample the lobster paella and we were not disappointed. The food was beautiful - we had octopus and chorizo to start and lobster paella for main. The paella’s are for two people, but the portions are generous and could quite easily have fed 4 - we were definitely full. A bottle of wine is relatively cheap, starting at a minimum 24€. The atmosphere was bubbly and the waiters were friendly and attentive - they were particularly great with our 1 year baby. By the time we were leaving, they were queuing for a table and it is easy to see why - this is an eating experience not to be missed and I highly recommend that you visit if you are...
