Codex — Restaurant in Santiago de Compostela

Visiting the area this May. Looked for a nearby restaurant to have dinner and CodeX showed up with very good reviews. Went and saw the menu with pics and said we’ll have dinner here. We are early eaters and caught some of the staff off guard. Since we had a party of 5, we were sent upstairs and then directed to the dining area. There’s enough room for it to not be crowded and being early, there was only one other party of 6 upstairs. Sat down and met our server, Jesus. He welcomed us and was very helpful with the menu since not everyone in our group spoke Spanish. Also the menu has pictures which really helped. Jesus made some recommendations and took our orders. Figured we were early so it would take a while for the food to be prepared. However, the food came out relatively quickly (compared to other places we’ve eaten at here in Spain). Everything was correct and cooked properly. We took pictures but it looks the same as the menu and what other reviewers posted. I had the grilled squid and the grilled peppers. Others had other dishes and they all said the food was very tasty and well prepared. Jesus checked on us throughout the meal but he didn’t bother us every 3 minutes, he was great. After dinner we had a last shot and that closed dinner. Terrific service, terrific food and the atmosphere was just like home. Well done to Jesus and the rest of the staff. Highly recommend this...

Thought I'd give this spot a try given the number of high ratings and recommended by TripAdvisor. Worst restaurant by far during my 3 week trip in both food and service. Ordered shrimp, razor clams, scallops, paella. All the seafood was so overcooked it was barely edible. As for the paella, was told it would take 30 min. Took almost an hour and was incredibly salty and rice was undercooked (makes me think they forgot to make the order and rushed it). Ate two bites and just left it.

Staff was pretty rude to us, while they seemed nicer to other tables. Staff also demanded a tip when paying and asked if I would pay by credit card or cash.

Go elsewhere, don't waste your money/time/appetite here. Plenty of other seafood...

There were 6 of us. First we selected and ordered the dishes on the menu, 5 minutes later the waiter came to us and informed us that they did not have the corresponding products in the store. Because of this we had to order other dishes. We all ended up getting omelettes which cost 8 euros each, these were very disgusting and no one could eat them. At the beginning the waiter brought bread and cheese to the table. we thought this was free as the waiter said it was free. At the end of the bill, however, we were charged 6 euros for the bread and cheese. The conclusion of this restaurant visit is that we will definitely never eat there again, since the food was disgusting and the service staff...
