It's the name that led me to this place. Having served on HMS Aurora as a seaman during my ten years in the RN, every mention of the name turns my head and I have to investigate.
The bar, the bodega, is older than most and looks it. Painted on the headpost sign states it's foundation was 1913. In the window are artifacts, cameras, typewriters, bottles and printed memorabilia, all dating back to the early 1900's
Clearly popular with the locals who were turning up shortly after us (and we were almost bang on opening time) it's one of the few bars that serve Alhambra beer, in a city dominated by Cruzcampo.
The place looks scruffy on the outside, but perhaps that is deliberate. Inside it also looks old, but clean. Several large sherry casks dominate behind the bar and this is clearly the establishments raison d'ètre.

The staff did not intervene until the very end when this woman made horrible accusations of our group and would not calm down.
Would...

Tucked away behind a very touristy alfalfa square it's a little gem, self service and better than the ones on the square - nice interior and good selection. The orange wine was fab (although I have nothing to compare it to). Had Pollo a la miel y mastabo (chicken honey mustard sauce) and pringa montadito (pork cheek mini sandwich) - both were pretty tasty but honey mustard was from a bottle and the pork cheek was spread on the bread - so not exactly home made touches. Go for a beer and eat if...
