Cafetería Pastelería La Canasta is a delightful establishment nestled in the vibrant streets of Seville, offering a tempting selection of pastries, sandwiches, and coffee that beckons both locals and tourists alike. Upon entering, I was immediately struck by the bright and inviting atmosphere; the decor is modern yet warm, creating a cozy ambiance that encourages you to linger over your meal. The cleanliness of the space was also impressive, with every table and surface meticulously maintained, which added to the overall pleasant experience.
However, I must admit that my visit was somewhat marred by the surprisingly high prices, especially considering the typical cost of dining in Seville and Spain in general. While I understand that quality often comes at a premium, it was a bit of a shock to find that the prices at La Canasta were notably elevated compared to other local eateries. That said, the quality of the food did reflect this higher price point, and I was eager to see if the experience would justify the cost.
I decided to sample a selection of their offerings, starting with some sandwiches and croissants filled with ham. The croissants were freshly baked, golden brown, and flaky to perfection. Each bite revealed a delightful combination of buttery goodness and savory ham, making for a satisfying and indulgent treat. The sandwiches were equally impressive, crafted with high-quality ingredients that showcased the café's commitment to flavor and freshness. The balance of textures and tastes in both dishes was commendable, and it was clear that a great deal of care went into their preparation.
Accompanying my meal was a cup of coffee that was remarkably strong and robust. It provided the perfect kick to start my day, with a rich flavor that complemented the pastries beautifully. For coffee lovers, this is a definite highlight, as the café clearly takes pride in serving a quality brew that stands out in a city known for its vibrant café culture.
Despite the high quality of the food and the inviting atmosphere, I did encounter a notable downside: the service was rather slow. Although it was a quiet morning when I visited, the waitstaff seemed to be moving at a leisurely pace, which made the experience feel a bit drawn out. I found myself waiting longer than expected for my order to be taken and for my food to arrive. However, I couldn’t help but notice that during the day, the café transformed into a bustling hub of activity, with patrons filling the tables and the staff working diligently to keep up with the demand. It was clear that La Canasta is a popular choice among locals, and I could only imagine how lively and energetic the atmosphere must be during peak hours.
One of the standout features of La Canasta is the incredible variety of foods and brunch options available. The display case is filled with an array of pastries, cakes, and other baked goods that are visually stunning and tempting. From elaborate tarts to simple yet delicious muffins, there is something to cater to every palate. The brunch menu offers a delightful selection, including fresh salads, hearty breakfast bowls, and more, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely weekend meal or a quick bite during the week.
In summary, Cafetería Pastelería La Canasta is a charming spot in Seville that excels in quality and variety, making it a worthwhile destination for food enthusiasts. While the prices are on the higher end, the delicious food, strong coffee, and clean environment contribute to a pleasant dining experience. However, potential visitors should be prepared for the possibility of slower service, particularly during quieter times. If you find yourself in Seville and are looking for a place to indulge in some exquisite pastries and brunch options, La Canasta is certainly worth a visit, especially if you appreciate high-quality ingredients and a lively atmosphere. Just be ready for the bustling crowds that come with its...
Read moreThis patisserie is part of a chain. Although we actually ate there 4 or 5 times the service can only be described as terrible. Mostly we were indoors (as it was 35 degrees outside) and the cakes were pretty good. The milk shakes however were hit and miss, small and expensive and pot luck on the amount of ice cream in them! Be prepared to wait a very long time for anyone to bother to serve you or to bring you your bill! The "highlight" of our visits came towards the end of our trip to Seville when we stopped for coffee on the way back to the Hotel and, as it turned out, stupidly sat on the terrace. We ordered two coffees and the waiter said "I will bring you your 'receipt' with the coffee" In other words as two pensioners must, to him, have looked like thieves who would, as he explained, 'run off without paying' and he would be responsible for the loss, we must pay when we got our coffee! I'm afraid that this infuriated me so, probably quite angrily, I paid as demanded and then asked for a menu as we had planned to have a dessert. I had noticed that the couple on the next table, who clearly didn't look like thieves, were able to run a tab which is absolutely normal in Spain - and pointed this out to our waiter. He then lectured me for about five minutes about how rude I was, how he isn't going to pay for visitors stealing food and coffee - and much more. I asked to see the manager, who unfortunately spoke not a word of English (in a cafe in the heart of the tourist district of Seville) and my inadequate Spanish wasn't up to complaining! We left and I asked our wonderful receptionist at the Petit Palace Marques Santa Ana to call the cafe and tell them how unhappy we were which she did. This made no difference so I asked her to arrange for me to speak to the Director responsible. Not available of course so I end up with a customer services e-mail address to waste my time registering a complaint. Given that this is a hugely popular cafe right outside that Cathedral why should they bother?. There is an absolutely brilliant local Heladeria - Cafe Hense - just down the street towards the Alcazar; the cakes are great, the milk shakes have plenty of ice cream, the ice cream sundaes are fabulous and the staff are absolutely terrific. Oh, and it's much cheaper and the same price to enjoy the terrace as it is to take away. Skip La Canasta, save money and get great service and quality...
Read moreI don’t recommend this place for the quality of service is low. Me and my wife wanted to order drinks and something to eat. The waiter attends quickly and explains us we can order through a digital device on the table. As it did not work as he expected he said he would come back to take our order in 2 minutes. Time passed by however no waiter. As both my wife and I made eye contact various times he kept evading us for no reason. The place was not full and he certainly was not the only waiter. I decided to order directly from the cashier. That seemed not possible. After explaining we had already been waiting for 20 minutes someone would be send to our table. Another waiter pops up quickly and takes our order. The 2nd waiter only brings our drinks. So we are left waiting again for 2 simple sandwiches. I decided to pay the drinks and cancel the rest of the order. In the end the waiter was rude not at all recognizing the bad service! If you are accustomed to getting a normal service think twice upon entering this bakery for there are many other lovely places...
