I thought maybe we'd been led astray by the reviews when we arrived because this place was absolutely empty aside from 1 other party that arrived just ahead of us.
Thankfully, all of my fears were quelled once we we had our first bite of food. Everything we sampled was absolutely delicious and I found myself feeling annoyed that more people weren't dining here because when something is so good, you want others to support it. We had the smoked sardines on inverted puff pastry (though the "puff pastry" was more hard cracker than light, fluffy puff), zamburiñas (scallops), fried cod with basil alioli, artichoke with parmesan, and ox tail. For dessert, the Payoyo cheesecake and tocino with accompanying dessert vermuts (one of which was Pedro Ximenez). Each dish was better than the next, though the scallops and the artichoke were absolutely standouts and I considered cancelling the rest of the meal and just reordering both of those dishes. Truly, order the scallops.
Service could not have been better. Everything was timed just right, and the young lady who was helping us assisted with details about the menu and made excellent dessert and wine pairing suggestions. She was perfectly professional and unobtrusive while still being very helpful. That's my favorite kind of service at a dining establishment.
FH exclaimed that this might be his favorite place in all of Sevilla and that's over multiple visits to the city over the course of years, spanning many, many, MANY meals, so that's quite a compliment. I have to agree - probably my favorite meal in Sevilla to date. We hope to be back to...

Embarking on a high-end kitchen exploration, Fray Melitón Restaurante pleasantly surprised with its 5-star Mediterranean cuisine. Nestled in a stylish setting, right in front of the bullfight arena, it strikes an impressive balance between quality and price.
The dishes here are a culinary masterpiece – each one tender, soft, yet skillfully highlighting the distinct flavors of its ingredients. Our journey began with the Zamburiñas, an absolute favorite. Pro tip: Order at least 2 per person to kickstart the feast. The smoked sardine, with its perfect saltiness, set the tone for the culinary adventure.
Moving on, the artichokes with sliced Parmesan were nothing short of amazing, showcasing exquisite tenderness. A twist was introduced by omitting the foie (personal taste), revealing an explosion of olive oil flavor – a true palate pleaser.
For the second act, we opted for the cod cocochas, enhancing the experience by adding extra caramelized piquillos – a pro move that elevated the dish to another level.
Fray Melitón Restaurante is a must-visit for those seeking Mediterranean culinary excellence. A gastronomic journey that's worth...
Read moreWe went there quite late for two, without booking, and they were nice enough to give us a table. After a few days in Sevilla, eating tapas and such, we can say that this was the best food we had! We shared the medium portion of the cheese plate - that was rather big for two and for the price of 10€! -, then shared the risotto and the tuna and vegetable wok. Everything was delicious, the staff was nice. Some downsides were that they didn’t have the glasses of wine that we had chosen, they only had one white and one red. They were not expensive and good though. Also, the service was a bit slow, considering there were only 4 tables left, and you kind of had to wave for the waiters to see that you had finished. But this is coming from Parisians used to the parisian very quick service. In the end, the setting was very pretty, the food exquisite and despite a service a bit floppy, we had a great evening there. Less than 20€ per person for one shared entrance, two meals and two...
