It's sad when old loves die...
We've been coming to Tasca Nueva Bahía for several years now; we've celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and what not here.
For my birthday a couple of years ago we were 36 people and it went smoothly and without a hitch, but...
Yesterday we were 22 persons there to celebrate my birthday and I left in tears...
(Let me clarify that we all speak fluent Spanish; all but my self are native to the language as they are Cubans and from Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador and El Salvador so it was not a matter of misunderstanding because of a language barrier.)
First, my husband ordered three bottles of cava for all of us. The waiter simply put down the opened bottles at the table and left it to us to serve it, and we didn't even get ice buckets for the bottles...
It was a bit chaotic around dinner; some got their main course without others even getting their entrées, but we're a large group and know it's not always easy to cater to all of us, so we laughed it away and took it in stride.
Then we ordered wine for dinner, and neither my husband and I, nor our friends, were offered to taste the wine, and in our case the waiter slammed the bottle on the table and said "arréglate lo tu" (help yourself) without serving us. And, yet again, no ice bucket till we asked for it.
During dinner I asked for the sauce that was supposed to come with the tabla at least 3-4 times and when it finally arrived dinner was cold...
Yet again I'd like to stress that we were in no way rude or anything, but laughed it all off and tried to have a good time despite the rude waiter, but when the check came it was the final straw.
We had ordered a tabla for €32 and were served one for €54 without us realising it. Yet again with the chaos around dinner we didn't even notice nor thought about it and were told we should have noticed and told them. And since we didn't, we should pay for it!
We asked to talk to the boss, who turned out to be the owner, and she was so unsympathetic that I just couldn't hold my tears back.
When we finally told her that we would pay the full amount of the bill, but would then like to have the Hojas de reclamaciones she came back with the correct bill (according to what we had ordered) and said that we could pay the bill we thought was fair, and offered to bring the Hojas de reclamación if we still wanted it.
By then all of our friends had left, none of them being offered a chupito, and I couldn't stop crying over the fiasco my birthday had turned into, so we just paid and left.
I will sorely miss Tasca Nueva Bahía; we've been there at least a dozen times and we've recommended it to every single person we know, and on different Facebook pages, but unfortunately it's not what it's been...
The food is still delicious, but the staff is not what it used to be, and the waiter that served us must have had a really bad day, or shouldn't have been given the task of serving a...
Read moreA Classic Tourist Trap – Avoid at All Costs
This restaurant is the textbook definition of a tourist trap. Lured in by a promising menu and charming exterior, we quickly realized the quality did not match the prices—or the hype.
To start, the shrimps were overcooked to the point of being rubbery, while the calamari was so chewy it felt like a jaw workout. Things didn't get better with the mains: lamb, fish, and pork were all dry, lacking both flavor and moisture. It was as if they'd been sitting under a heat lamp for hours.
Even more disappointing was the portion composition—a third of the plate was just salad, clearly a tactic to make up for the meager servings of actual protein.
To top it all off, we experienced a ridiculous waiting time for our change. It genuinely felt like the waiter was stalling, hoping we'd give up and walk away without it. It left a bitter taste that no dessert could fix—though frankly, we didn’t stick around to find out.
Do yourself a favor: walk a few more blocks and find somewhere locals actually eat. This place is all show and...
Read moreFirst visit was pleasant, we sat at the bar and ordered tapas and wine and it was nice.
We decided to go back a second time and that was a mistake… The staff were really rude, we sat at a table outside, we waited forever for our tapas to arrive that eventually asked for the bill to leave, to go and eat somewhere else. There were 3 staff members constantly standing at the door chatting and doing nothing and when we approached them to ask for the bill, they seemed annoyed with us for asking them and radio’ed inside to tell the waitress to come out?! Such a confusing setup and what seems like a waste of money on staff that do nothing.
The bill then arrived and had to be sent back to be corrected because our tapas were charged to the bill when they never arrived.
Such a shame because the food the first visit was...
