We have just had the best meal In this little restaurant across the road from the back of Russafa market. The kids (10 and 8) were made to feel so welcome and gave big thumbs up to different pastas. We shared a range different plates. An aubergine tapenade with raisins and vinegar was a perfect start. I can’t remember the names of all the dishes but we had the most rich, deliciouss thinly sliced herb infused roast belly pork and potatoes which were equally soft and crisp. We had a home made veal, pork and lamb sausage which was a Puglian recipe which Giovanni (who runs the restaurant with his wife Claudia) searched out and received the ingredients from a butcher in Puglia - what is not to like about that?? It lived up to this and was served with radish and fennel - a great match. Lamb meatballs were served with asparagus in a beautifully slightly sharp and acidic sauce made from lemon and egg yolk which balanced the sweetness of the meatballs just perfectly. A clever, fresh and effective false tuna salad (was actually pork) the second cold dish was refreshing and tasty... All this with water, wine, bread and chat about the different regions of Italy the staff came from made this meal an absolute delight. The dishes are medium plates similar in size to many of the tapas dishes you will find around Valencia but stood out for us and we will be returning. When we left we found they had another restaurant about 200 metres away. We had a look and it was heaving and full of families, couples and friends who all looked as enthusiastic as we did! Really do recommend this unpretentious, friendly and completely unique...
Read moreWe were hoping to try this place. We asked for a table for two, seeing three tables outside. We just saw a couple that was just left before we came back around deciding to eat there.. The gentlemen said they didn't have any seats and walked away fast looking at us. They way they looked at us was very much a "you're not welcomed here" look I've seen a few times before in my life in certain areas of the world. In any case, three girls came up behind us and asked for a seat, too, while we were discussing where else we could go. They got a little quiet with the guy at the door and then went and pushed two of the tables together and sat down outside, presumably to eat. My spanish is not good since I am learning, yet considering how the interaction here was to the interactions we had with others who were full or reservations only, it didn't leave much to be desired. Maybe it was a simple misunderstanding, and he was going to check something on the keypad in the back, or maybe they just didn't want to serve us since we didn't look a specific way. I can only go off what we felt and seen...
Read moreWe recently dined at this charming Italian restaurant and were absolutely delighted with the experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the owner made us feel right at home with his genuine hospitality. Our dinner was exquisite - my girlfriend enjoyed a pumpkin ravioli with butter and sage sauce, while I savored the perfectly cooked, lightly grilled tuna with vegetables. We also shared a scrumptious bruschetta platter featuring wild pate, pumpkin truffle, and caramelized onion with melted cheese. We topped our evening off with the home-made tirasmu. A great, non-complex end to our evening. All-in-all were the flavors incredible, and the presentation simple but great.
We had a fantastic evening filled with wonderful ambiance, exceptional food, and a gracious host - all at a reasonable price. We highly recommend this Italian gem for a memorable...
