Amazing, magical and perfect. These are the most incredible words to describe this wonderful place. So, one day all of our relatives thought about going on a get together to have some fun and have a good meal. But, we did not want to be stuck in an ordinary place but we wanted to go near the beach side to a relaxing dinner with the sea breeze. But, there was a catch: we were on quite a budget but we did not want to be served with low quality food just because of that. So, after hours of searching and seeking we finally found this wonder called the Lighthouse Gallery. It gets it’s name as it is situated just opposite the Colombo lighthouse which is open for visitors. And considering all facts this seemed to be the best place. Surprisingly, things went fairly smoothly according to our prediction.
So, before we went to the restaurant we decided to go to the lighthouse. But, the problem was that you have to gain special access to go to the very top and you are only permitted to go to the base level height and I have to say that the view is not the best of interesting but it is worth for a try.
So, talking about the atmosphere of the restaurant, it is very spacious and can fit a large number of people without any problem at all and the pace does get quite crowded. Most of the places are open area but you can also have it indoors as well. But , reservations are recommended with both options to avoid any form of disappointment. Even though there were fans, they were not installed and it did start to boil and in the end it did become quite unbearable. We were expecting the sea breeze to cool us down but that did not happen in our case. A fact that quite disappointed us was that there was not much of a beach vibe as we expected as the area was covered mostly. Unfortunately there were some people at the back who were smoking and the smell made us quite sick to be honest. We also noticed that one of the plates had a chip shattered in the bottom but that was not much of an issue. You do have to park on the road as they do not provide any parking options.
We first decided to have some bites to fire up our stomachs to digest the main course. And the menu had a quite range of options to choose from. We ordered some bite chicken, bite cuttlefish and some French Fries. Talking about the chicken, it had a savory taste and was very delicious and was quite spicy. Spoiler Alert; that there are bones in the chicken and that becomes quite annoying sometimes. Talking about the cuttlefish, it has quite a great taste and it is full of flavour and has such a great level of crispiness. They also provide you with a special sauce as well. The French Fries did not have anything out of the ordinary. But, something that I would like to highlight is that the portions are extremely large and are perfect for a large group. They do not serve smaller portions, only large portions are available. The minimum quantity that you can get is one kilo. And despite all these, the price is very reasonable. When compared to other restaurants they serve the portions realistically. They do not try to trick you by serving with onion slices and that is a point that I would have to give a SHOUT OUT!!!!!!!
They said that there would be a calypso but that was not too much of a success.
The waiter who served us called Jayathilake was so friendly and also made a joke or two with us and he was very efficient and quick. Not only him but the whole staff represents this highly respectable quality. This just goes to show the top tier quality of the customer service of this place.
Overall, this is a wonderful place for a get-together where your main goal is to have fun and have good food without sacrificing on quality or the portion even if you are on a budget. I RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO...

Read moreLight House Galley is located in Chaithya road, Colombo 01. As we all know security checks are little higher in this area, on the day we visited we got checked in 2 spots before reaching galley, need to mention they did a full check from vehicle to passengers individually so my advice is be patient and proceed with this since entertainment is only valid if all are safe. Next we reached the restaurant i loved the ambience and outdoor setting. Vehicle was parked right opposite to the entrance on road which was feasible and no parking tickets (yeyy lol) table was booked earlier cause the gang was huge & as we were seated they presented us menu cards (yes good) but have to mention no water was served till we asked. Fresh juices were served 1st then the boys brought their own alcohol from outside (BYOB concept is welcomed) i noticed restaurant had red bull & other soft drinks. To my memory the worst experience was the mosquitoes (damn, i literary wanted to go home) we couldn't help but started killing them with bare hands (we were seated on outside too) after sometime a waiter brought a mosquito coil n kept near us to our relief (but not every guest might prefer this method) so its a big negative point with no proper solution (maybe go indoors even if u like da open view). Starters had variations we ordered fried chips, veges batter fried, fried mushrooms, and batter fried cuttlefish... as for mains went with all favourite fried rice with chicken and some curry. Amout came out fair and less than expected. Washrooms were clean & well maintained (maybe cause of the forces/SL navy influence) during da time we walked upto the opposite real light house podium and captured some nice pictures before the sun set. (A plus point) So all together I'd say its an ideal place to hangout like with your buddies rather than your family, a place to talk n finish off that friday night. Remember they welcome...
