During our recent visit to Church Street Social in Galle, we had an unforgettable dining experience, elevated by exceptional service and a charming atmosphere.
I started with the Black Pork Curry, which was bursting with bold, authentic Sri Lankan flavours. The tender pork was perfectly spiced, making it a true standout dish. I paired this with a refreshing Bazaar Breeze cocktail and another creative drink from their impressive menu. My wife opted for the Ceylon Spiced Tuna Pizza, a delightful fusion of crisp crust and vibrant, local flavours. She paired it with the tangy and revitalising Passion Lemonade, which was as refreshing as it was delicious.
The desserts were the crowning glory of the evening. We indulged in three exceptional choices: the Wattalapam, a rich and indulgent Sri Lankan classic; the Coconut Cheesecake, offering a delightful tropical twist; and the Caramel Pumpkin Pie, which was perfectly spiced. The Coconut Crème Brûlée, with its delicate caramelised top and creamy, fragrant centre, was a true masterpiece.
The staff were absolutely brilliant—attentive, friendly, and genuinely committed to ensuring we had a perfect evening. Their professionalism and warm hospitality made us feel truly welcome and added a special touch to the overall experience.
With its incredible food, imaginative drinks, stunning presentation, and impeccable service, Church Street Social is a must-visit for anyone in Galle. We’ll certainly be returning on...
Read moreWhile the location was fine, the food and the service were not. We had to wait a long time before anyone took notice of us to be seated. Staff was hanging at the bar inside. While our table was reserved, it had to be prepared while we were seated. They forgot our napkins and we had to go inside to ask for them. Wine on the menu that we ordered, was not available. The main course of my partner existed of just one piece of fish and a bowl of dry white rice, nothing else. No vegetables, no sauce, nothing. When we complained, they said sorry but told us this was their normal way of serving. When we ordered dessert, we had a chance to check the menu description for the main course which showed more ingredients that were simply forgotten by the chef. The ice cream for dessert was mostly melted when it finally arrived. My ‘classical lemon tart with meringue’ tasted ok, but was extremely small. In our view this restaurant is highly pretentious, but lacks the real quality that might be expected for the LKR 18.000 (including a service charge of 33%!) that...

Booked about a month in advance for a birthday meal. I requested a bottle of prosecco to be on the table when we arrived. I had this confirmed 4 times before the evening. Got there, no prosecco, extremely slow and haphazard service. I had to go and find a waiter multiple times to actually get the bottle of prosecco. Shambles.
The lead waiter was appalling. Abrupt, uncaring, forgetful, shouting to the other waiters across the room, dragging his feet around and not doing the basics such as bringing our drinks / bread.
When we tried to order after sitting deciding for 20 minutes, we were told 80% of the starters were not available. Customers need to be made aware of what's not available when seated.
The only reason the service is 4 stars is thanks to the other 3 waiters. They were all very good, friendly and attentive.
The food was incredible. We all had the traditional curries with a dessert afterwards. Delicious.
The setting is...
