⭐ 5/5 – A Hidden Gem in Galle fort! Highly Recommended!

We were absolutely blown away by The Ivy by Frangipani in Galle Fort! After being scammed by another hotel (Moi Galle Fort by DBI – avoid at all costs!), we were heartbroken and urgently needed a decent place to stay during our trip. That’s when we stumbled upon this hidden gem – and honestly, it turned our entire experience around.

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the owner and the friendly staff, who went out of their way to help us feel comfortable and safe. They offered us a spacious family room for a very affordable price – much cheaper than the previous place – and the quality was far superior.

The room was incredibly clean, with: • A double bed and two single beds, all with duvets and clean sheets • Four towels – perfect for the four of us girls • Two ceiling fans, air conditioning, and even a refrigerator • A mirror, two racks for our clothes, and ample storage space • A clean, spacious bathroom with hot water • A huge balcony and sitting area where we could relax and enjoy the view

We were genuinely surprised at how much value this place offered for the price. It felt like a luxury stay on a budget, and it completely saved our trip.

Whether you’re on a girls’ trip, family vacation, or even a couple’s getaway, we can’t recommend The Ivy by Frangipani enough. Clean, cozy, affordable, and run by genuinely kind people — this place is a 100/100 in our books.

Thank you to the team at The Ivy for turning our nightmare into a...

Had the most horrible and discriminatory behavior form the manager of the restaurant which serves mediocre food at a high price. I ordered one Hawaiian pizza and made sure it had chicken before ordering, when the pizza got served it was horrible with dough and sauce having no seasoning at all and chicken was missing. Pineapple and some peppers were sporadically spread on the pizza. I complained about it after having 1.5 small slices out of 8, the manager was so rude and said that he tasted the pizza and it tasted delicious to him. He also went ahead and said "as you are from India that is why you are doing this" and asked me to pay half the amount which I denied. I politely went to the counter and said the comment he made about India is unwarranted and discriminatory. He then had the audacity of telling me that I should not bother him and asked me to go out of the restaurant and wait for my change. Also to be noted the women next to my table also complained about the bad tasting food but the manager didn't respond to her as she was white. This is preposterous! They have really mediocre food and attitude of a gourmet restaurant. I would never recommend it to anyone. Through out my trip met really nice Srilankan people but had this horrible experience on the last day of my trip here in Srilanka. I would also request the management of the restaurant to not hire such illiterate and ill mannered staff. I ahd no complaints for the rest of the staff as they...

Stayed her for one night as part of a group tour. Our room was on the first floor at the back of the hotel, very end of the corridor. We had a double room with a large bed, mozzie net. Two windows at front of room which we left open for air rather than using air con. Small wet room behind bedroom; shower not the most powerful or warm but functional. Towels provided. There is a desk in the room and a chair and a towel rail. In front of the room on the walkway were two chairs over looking the courtyard below. This is not a motel in the western sense of motel; more a family run guest house in a beautiful old building. The lobby interior is beautiful and the staircase is of brown wood. In front of the hotel is now a small bar which does drinks and snacks/light meals which is handy. Breakfast is served her in the morning; good standard Sri Lankan breakfast of tea, coffee, bread/toast, eggs and fruit. This hotel is in an excellent location for exploring all that Galle Fort has to offer as you are right on the main strip so easy access to banks (turn left), super markets (right, then left) plus all the tourist shops, bars, restaurants and sights. A good choice for location and feeling like you are supporting...

My experience at The Ivy by Frangipani was nothing short of a disaster. From the food to the aftermath, it was a nightmare that left me deeply regretting my visit. The food was absolutely terrible—unappetizing, poorly executed, and overpriced. It felt as though the chef relied on “how-to” videos to prepare the dishes. I ordered tacos, expecting something decent, but was served a terrible excuse for them using wheat wraps that were impossible to eat. My wife ordered spaghetti carbonara, which was equally disastrous, a far cry from what you’d expect from even a basic version of the dish. As if the bad food wasn’t enough, both of us ended up with food poisoning, which completely ruined our trip. This was supposed to be a special experience, but instead, it turned into an ordeal. The live music was the only redeeming factor, but even that couldn’t save the experience. Tourists, beware—avoid this place at all costs unless you want to risk ruining your entire vacation. Overpriced, low-quality food served with grandiose pricing The Ivy by Frangipani is an absolute no-go.

This place is a scam due to its pricing and portion size. The food and drinks don’t come together and take a very long time to come out. We came as a group and they did not serve us all together. I also ordered a chocolate shake and it came 30 min later. This is a spot just to scam tourists for their money. The food is very subpar as well. Im just overall very disappointed that we payed over 2200lkr per dish and received the most subpar tasteless food. Please look to improve how you bring food out together or get a menu that doesn’t require so much time for how little you give. My grandpa received a pasta that tasted burnt. My aunt ordered food and it hasn’t come at all even after everyone has finished eating. She had to share her food with her husband and the food had a hair piece in it so they both couldn’t eat. Please improve the quality of food. The shakes and milkshakes were good. But the food and service was very disappointing. After a long bus ride we came here just to be dissatisfied and disappointed. I hope you take my thoughts into consideration.

Walked in without a reservation the week between Christmas and New Years and was able to get a room in their auxillary building across the street for 5500lkr/night. This annex building isn't as nice as the main one but the bed was comfy and everything worked and we had a nice balcony looking out at the street next to our room that no one else used. The water pressure in the shower was poor and I wish their was a dresser or something to put luggage on but no biggie for me. I also rented a scooter for the day which was reasonably priced and worked well!
