cheri-lee — Restaurant in Göteborgs Stad

A hype pan-Asian fusion restaurant at the heart of Gothenburg. Strategic location, but unfortunately the experience didn’t really match the hype.

The meals and cocktails which we ordered were mediocre, to put it mildly.

The cocktails were extremely underwhelming. Shochu Collins cocktail was served in a mere basic water glass with a couple of big chunks of ice and some spices sticked on the glass. Couldn’t taste the alcohol and it tasted very similar as Fanta Exotic (perhaps you can tell by the colour as well). Wasn’t bad, but I wouldn’t spend 158:- on a “Fanta Exotic” without any hint of alcohol in it. The audacity to put that high price on this level of quality with the basic presentation is hilarious.

Coco cocktail was OK, but butterfly pea (one of the elements in the cocktail) should be blue instead of murky purple color.

Fried wonton was nice! Crispy, not greasy, okay-seasoned but would’ve been elevated with a tad more salt.

Wagyu robata maki was also nice. The flavour profile is mild, balanced, would’ve been nicer if the wagyu flavour was not too subtle.

Drunken spicy noodles lived up to its spicy name so that was good, yet too vinagery, as if the sauce was mixed with sort of a bottled jar Sambal Oeleok or similar sambal you could find in a store.

Quite cozy atmosphere (disregarding a bit too loud music) and the staffs were friendly, nice and attentive. They took the time to explain the concept of the dining and each element of the dish.

With a few extra bucks, perhaps it is worth to go up the Avenyn to Ts for an Asian-fusion experience. Or to go down the Avenyn to Yb at Kungsportplatsen for a more affordable yet much more satisfying meal and better...

If you're looking for decent food and drinks, I suggest going somewhere else. Cheri-Lee is very much style over substance.

Cheri-Lee has all the appearance of an amazing dining experience, but unfortunately, it's just that: an appearance. The cool interior and innovative pan-Asian menu successfully lured us to try this restaurant, but we were left disappointed with all the dishes and drinks.

It seems they took the concept of an Asian menu, found recipes online, and ran with it. The taste profile is there, but that's where it ends. To break it down, here are a few disappointments with our orders: Spicy Kailan: By far the worst dish we had. It was almost inedible as it was SO undercooked, and it made me wonder if the chef had ever cooked kailan before. It was also very bland and could do with a bit more herb flavor and wok hay Drunken Noodles spicy spicy spicy: The most expensive dish on the mix-and-match menu, and a big disappointment. The sauce tasted very chemical, like something you got out of a jar from a supermarket. The strong, acidic taste of the sauce also overpowered the sirloin,. Steamed Crispy Chili Gyoza: Bland dumplings with chili sauce that looked and tasted as it came straight out of Lao Gan Ma chili oil jar Shochu Collins cocktail: Very watery with a huge chunk of ice that filled half of the glass. Couldn't even taste the alcohol.

Other dishes we tried were fine but bland.

For the price we paid (almost 1800 kr for 4 people, without dessert as we couldn’t be bothered), we expected more than just watery cocktails and bland/undercooked dishes. The only saving grace was our server, who was very...

Was excited to try this place. Found it to be overall quite a mediocre experience though... The sushi is 180:- at lunch, which for lunch, is a price level where you in my opinion can have high expectations. The presentation was a bit boring and not really any sides more than wasabi and ginger to lift up the plate. Also no miso soup. The 12 pieces were quite small and left me hungry. The sushi did however taste good, and seemed to be of good quality. Nicely decorated restaurant, good atmosphere and very Nice staff which is what brings it up to a 3/5 for my part. I would gladly return for drinks but most likely not for the food.

Update march 2023: Came back for drinks to have a glass of whiskey (Nikka days) which is a casual japanese whiskey. Not particularly aged or anything and i know that the bottle is fairly cheap to buy. Got charged 240 SEK for 4 cl. This is honestly a scam. I left after one glass and will not be...
