We visited this café last evening as a family and unfortunately had a disappointing experience.
After placing our order, we asked the staff if they could warm our baby's food. They refused. Since we had already ordered, my friend took the baby food to a nearby restaurant, which kindly helped us heat it.
While we were sitting at our table, the staff approached us and told us we were not allowed to bring outside food. I would completely understand this if it were for an adult. However, this was baby food—and we had already purchased food and drinks from the café.
We asked if they had any food options for babies or any alternative solution for families with small children. They did not—but still insisted that outside food was not allowed, even in this context.
We understand there may be hygiene or policy reasons, but a little flexibility and basic kindness toward families with babies would go a long way.
I also checked the café's website and menu and found no mention of this policy. If you do not allow baby food from outside or are unable to heat it, then either offer a suitable alternative or clearly inform customers in advance, so they are aware before placing an order.
Sadly, we won’t be returning and would not recommend this café to families with young children. We hope the management reconsiders how they approach situations like this...
Read moreMy Mom and I just arrived in Gothenburg yesterday and while out for a walk on Christmas Day, this place was open and welcoming so we stopped in. They have their menu also in English, which is a nice touch when traveling to somewhere new. My Mom is Gluten Free and they had about 8 options for her to choose from. But, she really wanted the Gingerbread Muffin with Cream Cheese icing. So she got that along with a large Earl Grey Tea. The mug was the size of a pot. I also got a muffin and a large Caramel Latte. Love the cup it came in. They had space on the main floor is some beautiful purple chairs that we snagged and enjoyed our treats and warm drinks while we watched the people walk by. I will be telling all those who I am traveling with about this place as they have lots of seating, great menu options and it's close to our hotel. My Mom and I both agree that we will return a few times before we leave as this first experience in Gothenburg has made the start of our trip a...
Read moreA relaxed environment, perfect to kill any awkwardly-sized unit of time. Peering in from the street, the golden glow of the café's lights seems almost unreal compared with the grey hues typical to Göteborg skies, and once inside, the clashing pinks of the chairs certainly go against the laws of Scandinavian minimalist design, however do not let this put you off. Efficient staff, comfortable seating and lenient opening hours (delicious flat whites can be had until 10pm if you're brave enough) makes this the ideal place to crack on with some light work, meet for the nearby Konserthus, or simply engage in the stereotypical Swedish practice of "fika".
Be warned - in a rather eccentric move for an independent coffee shop, only card payments are taken at Eva's Paley. Only reason this authentic slice of Swedish culture falls short of the...
