Beautiful restaurant with okay food

Tokyo 88 will be a strange one for me to review because I really enjoyed being there. What I did not enjoy, however, was the food itself. I got the yakiniku, and while it wasn't necessarily bad, it was not something I would pay for again. I can't speak for the other dishes but I can not recommend the one I got. I also received some sort of salad next to my food, which I flat out did not enjoy. I did not finish the small bowl of salad nor the yakiniku itself, not because I couldn't but because I did not want it. After eating I felt a little ill, this might not be because of the food since I was feeling a little under the weather, therefore I will give the food the benefit of the doubt but I feel like it should be pointed out. For around the 150 kr mark where most of their food except the sushi lies, it is not worth it. I've had better yakiniku for cheaper, and with places like Nooodle, the ramen would have to be very good to make up for the extra 50 kr. Because of all this the food receives a 3 out of 5. It wasn't bad, (except the salad), just very lackluster and the free miso soup was good.

The service was good, nothing out of the ordinary. There wasn't anything that would retract any stars nor anything that makes it worth pointing out. 4 out of 5

Lastly, like I said i enjoyed staying at the restaurant, the interior is very nice. It almost felt like stepping into another world. A very unusual place in Gothenburg but in a good way. The bathroom was also very clean and felt fresh so much so that I specifically noticed it. When the food is served it gets driven out on a small train tray thing. A little gimmick which I thought was cute. Sadly I forgot to snap any pictures of the place but I assume others will have. All in all I really liked it. So I'll give it a 5 out of 5 since I feel like it was definitely out of the ordinary in a good way.

I used to love this place and it was one of my favorite spots. For a long time, I thought it had the best ramen in town. But since the remodel (maybe a year ago?), things have slowly gone downhill. At first, the ramen still tasted like it used to, but they’ve started cutting back on ingredients and the quality has dropped. The ramen doesn’t stand out anymore: not many toppings, the tofu isn’t very flavorful, and the broth has lost its depth.

It’s also gotten noticeably more expensive (now it’s 179kr!!!). And maybe that would be fine if the quality was still there, but it’s not.

And it’s not just the food. They’ve also changed the whole dining experience. They used to have proper bowls and cutlery. Now it’s all plastic spoons and bowls, and the aluminium glasses and soy sauce dishes feel really unpleasant to use. I guess they thought the gold color would make it feel fancy? Honestly, it just feels cheap.

They also got rid of the conveyor belt with the little train that used to bring dishes around. It was a small thing, but it gave charm.

First, we ordered 4 drinks, 2 kirin and 2 juice, and then 2 more kirin beers. Had to then ask for two new glass as mixing juice and beer sounds disgusting, while getting the new glass, had to swap the glass twice as they were still dirty

Ordered then the beef and pork. One of each on their menu. Took about 10-15 minutes before the appetizer and beef to come at the same time. They got the beeg order wrong and we had to explain to them again what we ordered and then the waitress raised her voice a bit

20 minutes later. Still no tong, no rice, no pork and no dip. Had to manually ask for it after stopping a waitress.
