Awful food, even worse service and bad atmosphere. The other day i was looking for a tasty quick lunch. Walking down the street I saw two sushi places very close to each other. One had people and was busy, the other, Haiku, was pretty empty and that should have been a red flag. I decided to try Haiku because I know they have the conveyer belt and I love conveyer belt sushi.
Once I went inside the hostess was very pushy and not so friendly. I sat down trying to see if there was a menu I could look at. They have a board up high but my eyes are bad and I usually prefer an actual menu. I had no clue what the price of anything was and had to ask about prices. Immediately, I notice the sushi looks a bit shriveled and unfresh. Some other folks started rolling in and the hostess was again very loud and sounded unfriendly and pushy. Some guys asked for sashimi and the hostess kept trying to dodge the request and began yelling and arguing with the woman who was making food. It was very uncomfortable. Finally the woman "preparing" the sushi agreed to the sashimi. Yes, I used the preparing in quotes because I doubt anything was fresh. She then takes out a plastic tub...not the kind you see for food storage in restaurants but a old Philadelphia cream cheese tub and takes out pre-cut cubes of fish, puts it on a plate with garnish.
At that point I had eaten a few pieces of sushi that looked a little fresher but I stopped. I couldn't tell you if that old cream cheese tub was even refrigerated. I payed and left.
If you're still not convinced this place is hellish, the atmosphere will put the nail in the coffin. Besides the bickering and yelling between the two staff, the bright neon green wall in the back is just ugly to look at. The place is just run down and then the hostess just put on some karaoke tunes and began singing...loudly and very very badly. And it went on for quite a while.
Don't go there,...

Small fruit flies, ceiling lamps had thick layers of dust, conveyor belt had crumbs and dirt in the corners, the table felt sticky like you'd walk on a bar floor sticky and some of the sushi on the belt looked like it's been there since the morning (we went late afternoon). The cashier also treated the chef badly, like not "visibly" but talking to her very demeaning way. Overall it felt really dirty place. After this experience I'm never going back there.
Have to edit my review to reflect the current feelings about Haiku.
Since the owner change the quality of the place has gone down. Staff (cashiers) are confused half of the time, you get wrong pricing or wrong it order. They're not as friendly. Quality of the sushi is little less but not much, I'm glad they still have some of the same sushichefs (which is the only reason I still go...
Read moreAs a Californian living in Sweden, I must say I've been depressed by the sushi served in the Gothenburg area but Haiku has restored my faith. Part of me doesn't want to write a great review because it was so nice having the place to ourselves on a Tuesday evening. This is the better sushi place in the Gothenburg area, hands down. The staff is warm, welcoming and accommodating. My husband is intolerant for avacados and brought up his concern for the rolls offered in the buffé menu. We were pleased to see only 4/7 rolls contained avacados. Not only did he feel he had options but once we became the only customers left in the restaurant, the waitress communicated with the sushi goddess (sushi chef - very nice and talented) and rolls with out avacodo were prioritized. The rolls were fantastic, innovative and delicious. We will be back. Pictured (torched salmon sashimi) was our favorite plate, very well flavored, melted...
