Chez Jolie — Restaurant in Stockholm

2.5⭐ restaurant. Too many areas lacking to rate it any higher.

🔸️ PUNCTUALITY ☹☹☹☹☹ Arriving on time doesn't mean that you will get your table at the time that you booked. We were pointed to the bar which was ok as a holding area. The bartender offered us water while waiting and we were seated in about 15 minutes.

What we didn't realize was that we would be kicked out of our table "on time" and the only option provided was to move to the bar even though we had not even finished our food.

There was no help to bring our remaining food and drinks to the bar so we had to self-service while the manager was more occupied to clear the table and bring the next group in. 👎👎👎👎👎

Only when we complained, the manager quickly offered a small discount but wasted no time to get back to packing in his new customers. It was easy but disappointing to tell where the priorities are.

🔸️ FOOD The food that didn't require cooking were really good 🤔.

PETIT AÏOL ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Delicate and super fresh veggies with a light aioli dip.

HUÎTRES NATURELLE ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plump, flavourful oysters flown daily from France. These tasted good without the need of the accompanying lemon squeeze, vingared onions and ketchup??? (Was this meant to be a joke?)

The food that were cooked were hugely disappointing in delivery and taste 😩.

CARPACCIO DE SANDRE ⭐⭐ A small starter of grilled and smoked pikeperch carpaccio. The fish slices were thick and fresh but tasted more like a light civeche.

TARTARE DE BŒUF 😭 This dish is mostly capers and cornichons with some beef. It is very sour and crunchy and has an unbalanced proportion of beef to condiments. Needs alot of perseverance to get through like an "Amazing Race" food challenge.

FRENCH FRIES ⭐⭐⭐ Good quality, golden brown rough cut shoestring fries topped with a pepper sprinkle. ⚠️Warning For Extremely High Amount of Salt In This Dish.

GÂTEAU DE CRÊPES ⭐⭐⭐ A slice of sweet layered Crêpe cake with vanilla served with a small scope of sourish rhubarb sorbet.

MADELEINES ⭐ 3 petite semi-dry pieces of sugar coated buttery sponge cakes with a hint of vanilla. Not that satisfying in size or taste. It's hard to rate this as good when Costco Sweden does so much better.

🔸️ DRINKS ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Extensive wine list. The notes and taste of white and red wines were good.

🔸️ Brewed coffee ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good quality, aromatic Swedish brewed coffee.

🔸️ AMBIANCE ⭐⭐ Contemporary design and quite ordinary furnishings. Place is not old but doesn't look fresh....

Updated visit on 23 Nov: We returned to Chez Jolie for a second visit, giving it another chance, and this time it exceeded our expectations. The experience was a complete turnaround from our previous visit. The appetiser was a promising start, but the real highlight was the duck breast. It was incredibly tender and cooked to absolute perfection—a true standout dish. And then there are the Madeleines, still absolutely to die for. Pairing them with a black coffee is an absolute must; it elevates the experience to another level. This visit was undeniably worth it, and I can see myself returning again and again just for the exquisite duck breast and those heavenly Madeleines. Highly recommended!

Visited in October: We recently visited Chez Jolie and had an overall enjoyable evening, though there were a few highs and lows. To start, we tried the Paris Brest, and while I enjoyed it, my partner wasn't as impressed. The duck pâté was quite mild, and he felt the sweetness from the Sauternes syrup overpowered the dish, making it unbalanced for him. For the mains, I had the saumon à la niçoise, and I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion. The salad dressing was light, flavorful, and made the whole dish feel fresh and appetizing. My partner opted for the Steak Frites. While the fries were good and the béarnaise sauce was spot on, there were a few issues with the steak itself. Some parts were undercooked to the point that they were almost raw, which was a bit disappointing. The real highlight of the meal was the Madeleines. They were just perfect soft and airy on the inside with a delicate crumbly exterior. It’s definitely something we'd return for! All in all, it was a good experience with a few minor hiccups. The atmosphere was nice, and while not everything hit the mark, the standouts like the Madeleines would make us consider coming back. The food is good but service is extremely subpar for a place like this. After our starters we asked for the menu twice to order mains and never received it. My glass was empty for an hour and they didn’t even notice despite passing our table multiple times, and seeing it when we asked for the menu. No food, no drinks, no service. They missed thousands of kronas in revenue here. We were ready to order mains and dessert and many more drinks, but left the place due to not getting any service - we weren’t even able to get the menu to order anything!
