I keep coming across situations where I think this is the best pho I’ve had, and here I am again. It was absolutely delicious I couldn’t bear to put hoisin or hot sauce in it. The broth was perfectly balanced with hints of star anise and herbs, it was simply flavourful. The pho was also generously filled with deliciously marinated marbled beef slices which I haven’t had anywhere before. I see most places use leaner cuts which can come out tough/dry or what they interpret as healthy, but this was phenomenal for me, to retain the flavour depth of a real authentic savoury bowl of pho. In addition, the Vietnamese meatballs, which don’t get served at many places, is what made this place stand out. It’s a quaint counter service style restaurant with really sweet young ladies working the register, albeit you’re told when they’re closing as you dine. Regardless, endearing to hear familiar dialect that made it an authentic experience - glad I made it before they ran out of the pho broth for...
Read moreIt's ok. Not very authentic tasting. The lemongrass bún was drowning in a very salty flat stirfry type sauce and came with an additional side of vinegary maggi soy-ish sauce. I didn't add the extra sauce since that would have rendered the dish inedible from sodium overload. I was expecting more of a fresh vermicelli noodle dish with marinated grilled lemongrass tofu and some nuoc cham on the side. Instead it was more like stir-fried vermicelli noodles with a soy-ish sauce on the side.
My husband enjoyed the banh mi but felt it was too salty. I tried a bite but felt the texture of the bread was off (crisp on outside but a bit soggy on the inside) and everything just tasted of Maggi sauce. There were not enough vegetables (pickled daikon/carrot or cilantro).
Service was good and fast, the place was clean and nicely laid out, the ingredients seemed fresh, it just wasn't to my taste, personally, but my...
Read moreI was strongly recommended by a friend to try this Vietnamese restaurant, and it really didn’t let me down! The pork rice noodles I ordered were right up my alley.
First of all, the pork belly deserves all the praise – its outer layer is pan-fried to a golden crisp. When you take a bite, you can taste the aroma of the fat, yet it’s not greasy at all. What was even more surprising was the rice noodles; they’re chewy with a slight springiness, and they soak up the soup perfectly, making every bite rich in flavor.
The Thai sweet chili sauce is a highlight too – it’s sweet and sour with a hint of spiciness. Dipping the rice noodles and pork belly in it takes the overall flavor to a whole new level, and every bite has wonderful layers of taste! I originally came just to give it a try, but ended up finishing the entire plate. Now I’m already looking forward to coming back for a...
