What a terrible disappointment of an evening ruined. We travelled to Stockholm for a special birthday which included booking far in advance to visit the GM cafe. We phoned in advance to check our booking and arrived full of excitement. As we stepped in the door we felt immediately something was a bit odd as the restaurant appeared already completely full. The young woman who approached us gave a scowl and seemed to question if we had a booking. We confirmed we did and that’s when it really went downhill. Someone on the table next to us had arrived with 3 guests instead of 2 and had more or less taken not only one of our seats but the small gap between the two tables as well simply because they didn’t want to be facing away from band. We said - what are we supposed to do ? This was met with complete distain and shrugging from girl who said - what’s wrong with you , don’t you like people ? It’s cosy here !! ( so basically- you shouldn’t mind that someone is in your seat, you have not even room to move your elbows , and now one of you cannot see the band because you are squashed in corner) She could not have been less helpful and made us feel we were the problem. What they should have done is told the previous table they had 2 seats and not forced an extra person in. To suggest we were unfriendly is ridiculous. Cosy setting is one thing. Sitting touching the person next to you squashed like sardines in not enjoyable. Very reluctantly the one person moved and again this created a bad atmosphere. We then discovered dishes were not available on menu and now feeling very uncomfortable we left. In any other setting if you found a person in a seat you booked the staff would help move the person and apologise or find a way to help. Another colleague did apologise but as there was no manager we could do no more. What was intended as a fabulous evening to celebrate our birthday event was spoiled. GM cafe you need more than music to draw and keep customers - please retrain this young woman. She doesn’t understand the importance of customer...
Read moreGreat artists. I enjoyed the show. However, the venue doesn't value solo guests who took the time to reserve for dinner and a show. The staff obviously messed up the reservation and instead of simply owning it by admitting their mistake ( it took them 5 minutes to find me a place... but guests and non-reservation patrons who came after me were sat (at great seats facing the stage) before... and at least three subsequent ones on a specific table left shortly after looking at the menu ), I was sat at a table with my back to the stage and facing other patrons. Sharing a table is not a problem. However, the classy thing would have been to be seated facing the stage (Common sense that I do not want a tete-a-tete with strangers in their own dates whilst eating mussels and vice versa). When I made the remark, I was told that I could hear the music with my ears whilst eating ( facing strangers) and that I just needed to inconvenience myself by twisting (whilst eating). I was starving, but this type of welcome has ruined my appetite to only ordering a main plate. Quite interesting is that I saw this table having various non-dining patrons the entire evening. Not once I was offered to move.
In retrospect, the aforementioned free table they refused to give me so to please other non-reservation guests (who ended up either not staying or seating solo themselves for a simple beer) could have been used by me. Whilst the staff tried to serve me with smiles as to dismiss this bad episode- with no apologies-, they were not the most attentive once the meal was ordered.
Very strange experience for a solo Black woman still new to town and visiting...a Jazz venue. I would recommend the place only for a spontaneous visit for music and drink ( like I did my first time) and not to bother going solo for a dinner reservation....they will probably ignore it anyways if...
Read moreOne of the best jazz venues I’ve experienced (in the world). Incredibly intimate, quality music, always a great experience. My first visit was 8 years ago, and returning now, not a thing has changed, it’s just as wonderful now as before. I highly recommend spending an evening here. Visit their website for the calendar to see who (and on what instruments) to expect.
There are usually three sets, first one starts at 8.00p. Get there 15-30 minutes before to claim a seat. The space is very small, so tables fill up quickly. Each set is a minimum 50 kr per person, only cash is accepted, so make sure to get some in advance. Support the talent!!
Solid food and drinks available while...
