lovely place to visit as a longtime fan of avicii, my greatest inspiration and one of my all time favorite artists. it’s located downstairs but as of my visit (dec 26, 2024) the space up top contains a photo gallery with unreleased images of tim. the area looks small from the top but the area underneath is expansive and it was large enough to accommodate a detailed experience.
we booked for the day after but they were kind to let us in on the spot with no wait after our schedule changed. as easy as walk-ins are, booking in advance never hurts.
even as a long time enjoyer of avicii after investing in all the public media there is about him, i still got to learn so much more about tim and his music through this experience. it includes unreleased music and stems, reconstructions of tim’s rooms/studios, exclusive interviews, and immersive playthings on the way to keep you interacting (i’m a sucker and did it all of course).
and for the most past these interactives are really well made albeit simple for things such as the musical remixing/stem control. the levels mix thing is the most glaring example of this (simple and admittedly a little limited), but the mashup/remix elements tablet using stems of levels, the nights, and wake me up is executed brilliantly; all three songs are beat and key synced. which is honestly what i expected but that doesn’t make it any less exciting to play with as a mashup artist myself.
this gave much insight i never knew about and i strongly recommend it to any fan of electronic music as he had a profound impact on the scene and it’s always nice to learn about these stories.
i took 164 photos in here so obviously i can’t (and won’t) post them all but have attached my top (trying not to spoil too much) along with example...
Read moreI spent almost two hours here, and I loved it! But I'll admit that the one-star reviews here are correct. If you're not a fan and just want to get to know Avicii, this is not the place. It's for people who already know Avicii and love his music.
Here's some of the stuff I liked: His teenage bedroom. Everything is set up the way it was when he lived with his parents. Same thing with a couple of his studios. I'm sure audiophiles will have strong opinions about the equipment :) There were screenshots of some YouTube videos of Tim. I'm sure it's because of rights issues that they cannot show the videos, but you can then look them up online. Some of them are from his very early career. His first blog post included tracks where he's asking for feedback. Nobody replied for five years! Booths with VR glasses that puts you in a recording studio with people like Aloe Blacc. It shows you the lyrics to one of Avicii's songs. You can then sing if you want to - and if those booths had been soundproof, I might have done that! His DJ stage set in a room with screens on all the walls. You can "be" Avicii at one of his performances, standing at the DJ controller, looking at the audience. That was pretty cool!
There are also a bunch of videos with and about Avicii. I thought the 'story' about his manager, Ash, was too positive. I've read the biography, and it's quite clear that Ash pressured Avicii into doing more performances when Avicii would rather barricade himself in a studio. He loved music, but he was an introvert. Ash didn't care about that and just wanted to make money.
Of course, there is a gift shop, but that was a disappointment. White T-shirts with a print that said AVICII in capital letters—I can make...
Read moreAbsolutely worth a visit, very emotional experience and loads of things to learn and really experience.
We booked the tickets in advance, on the day of our visit there was no queue. The tickets have to be booked for a certain time to make sure the museum does not get crowded and allow every visitor to try the interactive elements, so make sure to keep the time you booked when booking in advance.
The museum is actually quite small, but packed with information and interactive elements to try. From karaoke cabins to music mixing and creation, there's a lot to try out and learn while following the life and story of Tim. If you go through quickly without trying all of the things, you might be through in 15 minutes. We spent around one and a half hours in there because we watched all the films from start to end, tried all the elements and also listened to the audios with people talking about Tim, his music and his life.
Even though I am not a large fan, I just like the music and listen to it from time to time, I found the museum very atmospheric. It made me dance and sing and even cry due to all the personal insights in Tim and his "life to be remembered". Absolutely...
