A highlight of my trip!
Being my first time in Stockholm, I had really fallen in love with the Dalahäst as a symbol of both the country and my trip. I was so lucky to find the Dala Store, and really got way more than what I had anticipated. Not only was the store keep unbelievably friendly, he gave so much of his time to guide me elegantly through the culture and history of where the Dalahorse comes from, and why it is the symbol it is today.
From the regions, to colours, to patterns, to history, everything was explained in extraordinary detail that only someone with a burning passion could do.
I ended up getting a traditional Nils Olsen horse, alongside one made in store, which after such a great visit gave this one special Dalahäst a special place in my heart. Everything in store is handmade in Sweden, making each item unique in their own way.
I can't recommend this store...
Read moreI went to Dala Shop to paint my own dala horse. The man working there was absolutely amazing. I was a bit confused at first, since I thought the painting session only cost 99 krona, but he helped me figure out prices. He was so kind, and such a good painter! He also helped guide me when I was painting my dala horse. He taught me tons of techniques and gave step by step instructions, including which brush was best to use. He really went above and beyond! I'm not used to painting, so my dala horse was a bit sloppy, but it was because of his guidance that I was able to do it at all. This was an absolutely wonderful experience. I'm so glad...
Read moreI stopped at a few places in Gamla Stan to find a traditional Dala Horse, and it was harder than you think but I ultimately landed at this great place. You'll find Dala in several shops, but they're either crazy expensive with questionable origins, or just no origin whatsoever. I wanted to support local, and after talking to the store owner this shop was the place for me. Great options to choose from, reasonably priced and hand made. If this is what you're looking...
