La Coupole — Restaurant in Geneva

I recently had lunch at La Coupole, and to my surprise the menu was exactly the same as when I last visited in December 2024. While consistency can be a strength, it also makes the experience feel a bit predictable.

The restaurant is clean and the service is clearly aiming for a high-level, fine-dining standard. However, I couldn’t help but feel that the atmosphere leaned more toward theater than genuine coziness. The waiters are attentive, but they tend to overdo it—adding too many adverbs and flourishes in their speech—which ends up sounding a bit forced and, frankly, fake.

As for the food, the salmon appetizer was good but not particularly memorable. My beef fillet was cooked exactly as I had requested, but I didn’t understand why it was sliced into layers before being served. It gave the impression that I wasn’t capable of cutting it myself, which felt unnecessary. On the positive side, the butter with herbs sauce was excellent and definitely elevated the dish.

Overall, La Coupole delivers polished service and decent food, but the overly theatrical approach and lack of freshness in the menu make it fall short of the cozy, authentic dining experience one...

We are not too hungry at 11:55am but we need lunch before a long journey so we chose here for fillet de perches. To be very fair, the waiter did say ordering a large meal with sides are not usually allowed so appreciate small appetites are not common here. But half way through lunch they started hoovering floor and slamming cupboard behind us which was not what I’d expect from a reputable establishment. I lost appetite for eating in dust after.

Add: after we paid the bill without suspicion we realised they doubled the bill for sides without telling us. I’d be happy to pay if they felt two people need to order two portions but not in this manner. Being petty is one thing but being dishonest is much, much worse. Been there a handful of times and there is always a problem, particularly with overcharging. TWICE they went up to different members of the group I was with and asked for more money saying we hadn't paid when we had, and we ended up paying twice. We then had to go back with receipts to prove it the day after and they reluctantly refunded. They also did not light one of the steps which caused multiple accidents throughout the night (the room is really dark, and all steps were lit except this one). On mentioning this to staff they didn't really care. One of our group ended up going to the ER with a fracture because of it. It also costs upwards of 75chf for a bottle of coke when you get a bottle of alcohol for the table. Really not...
