Food was decent. Nothing spectacular or to write home about. The staff were incredibly rude. We had a group of 10, 3 of which were young kids. We ordered our food in groups as we had 3 families in total. You order food downstairs and find seating upstairs. They waited until the first 2 families ordered, paid, and went upstairs for them to tell the last family that the group didn’t order enough dishes. They had a “rule.” We ordered 8 dishes at that point as we only had 7 adults (more than 1 dish per adult). They said the rule was that we needed to order 2 more dishes to match the 10 people in our party. We explained we had 3 kids and we ordered more dishes than adults already, as the kids would likely just pick off of the 8 dishes ordered already. They insisted it was not based on the number of people eating but based on people using a chair in the restaurant. Either way, we ordered 2 additional dishes, knowing we wouldn’t come close to finishing the food. If it wasn’t for the fact that 2/3 of our group had already paid and gone upstairs, I would’ve told them to forget about the whole order and left the restaurant. But due to the fact that more than half our group was upstairs and paid for their portion already, we decided to just go along with their rudeness and eat lunch.
The owner (I’m assuming) also had her phone out recording our whole group while we were ordering food. Not sure what she was doing, but it’s quite rude to be standing in front of people obviously recording them without telling them what you’re recording for. She was about 3 feet away from the group with her phone in front of her face, obviously recording all of us without talking at all. At best, it’s weird. At worst, it’s very rude.
Then as the dishes were being prepared and sent upstairs, we asked for some small plates to share the food more easily. They refused to give us any small plates except for the kids. When I went downstairs to get a few more, the guy that was helping the lady owner rudely told me to go upstairs and wait when I had politely asked for some small plates when he was not busy. Excuse me? Ridiculous. Then the lady owner followed up and insisted that all of our dishes will come with their own large plate and we can split up the dishes across the 5 large plates on our own. Perhaps it was a language barrier, but the facial expressions, body language, and hand gestures came off as rude, short, and impatient.
Like I said, the food was ok. Not bad.
The service is unacceptable. Horrible. Be warned before you eat here, because they won’t tell you their “rule” up front, and as long as you’re cool with rude service, you’ll be fine.
I absolutely hate writing these kinds of reviews as I understand it’s a small business and a mom and pop shop. But regardless if you are a big or small business, customer service matters. It should matter way more for small businesses.
If you’re the owner reading this, do better. You are in full control of how you and your staff communicate with...
Read moreAfter three weeks in Switzerland, from Basel to Bern to Interlaken and finally Lucerne, I must say this is the best and most fairly priced meal we've had in this country.
Despite the various thai and chinese restaurants peppering the area, we were hard pressed to find a good, authentic asian meal below 20chf. This place delivered just that.
We ordered 2 bowls of tom yum kung (shrimp - 18chf, chicken - 17chf) to cut through the cold wind after a long day up on Pilatus Kulm. We were absolutely blown away by the deep and complex flavours that filled our mouths with just one bite. THIS is tom yum. Unlike the typical weak, almost transparent liquid likely concocted from seasoning powder that most restaurants claim to be 'tom yum kung'.
Both soups were rich and meticulously brewed, with generous servings of chicken breast meat and shrimp respectively. The shrimp tom yum had a milder taste with more of a coconut milk flavour with a hint of the sweetness of shrimp. On the other hand, the chicken tom yum packed a punch with a heavier sour and fragrant lemongrass flavour coming through. Personally I preferred the chicken tom yum because I enjoy the stronger tom yum taste. When we finished our meal, we could clearly see all the spices and herbs that gave the soups their rich taste. What is impressive is also that they are clearly made from different stocks, not just the same pot with different meat thrown in.
Only thing to note is that our food took about 30min to come. The tom yum seems to take longer than other dishes like pad thai. However, it was only a 2-man show and the wait was worth it.
I highly recommend this place; it was open on 2 Jan when very few places in...
Read moreAbsolute rip-off! Don’t get trapped here. The owner plays dirty tricks: she waits until you’ve already paid, then suddenly tells you that every single person — even little kids — must order a main dish or you have to pay CHF 6 each as a “table fee.”
When we visited in early August, we were two adults and two children (one only 4 years old). My wife ordered three main dishes plus sides and desserts. After we paid and were about to go upstairs, the lady boss stopped me and said: “You only ordered three main dishes. You must order another main dish or pay CHF 6 per person to sit inside.” I explained that we already ordered more food than we could eat, and that our sides and desserts cost more than another main dish. She ignored me and just repeated her demand. I didn’t want to waste food, so in the end I had to pay CHF 6 just to eat with my kids.
The table fee itself is not the issue — we have no problem with table fees and have paid them many times across Europe. But, most importantly, they are always clearly posted or verbally explained before ordering, and often adjusted reasonably based on total spending or the age of children. This restaurant deliberately hides the rule and only reveals it after payment, leaving diners with no choice but to comply. Such a practice is highly unethical, and may even be illegal — essentially fraud or extortion. Lucerne should not tolerate such a...
